According to news on November 4, SpaceX recently demolished a super high-speed rail test tunnel in Hawthorne, California, and plans to convert the open space into a parking lot for SpaceX employees.

It is reported that the test tunnel was discontinued earlier this year. The Boring Company, the tunneling company led by Musk, has said that super-high-speed rail technology even allows passengers to move through underground tunnels at speeds of more than 600mph in electric cabins, from Washington, D.C., to New York City in 30 minutes.

Mr Musk has been talking about the future of the technology since the 2013 white paper on super high-speed rail. At an event in Hawthorne, Calif., in 2018, Musk said the super-high-speed rail could take people from Hawthorne to Los Angeles at 150 miles an hour for as little as $1. Although there are still elements of super-high-speed rail on the The Boring Company website, so far, the super-high-speed train to Los Angeles has not been built.

In April, The Boring Company tweeted that it would begin a "full" test of super high-speed rail sometime this year.

The Boring Company has built a network of tunnels under Las Vegas that is completely different from that of super-high-speed rail, and passengers can travel through the tunnel in Tesla electric car.

Virgin Super High-Speed Rail, which competes with The Boring Company, reportedly abandoned the idea of using super-high-speed rail technology to transport passengers earlier this year to focus on transporting goods.

Neither SpaceX nor The Boring Company immediately responded to requests for comment.
