CTOnews.com, Nov. 4, the first 8K Ultra wide screen (ultrawide) display is finally coming and will be launched next year. The announcement was made at the launch of AMD's next-generation RX 7000 GPU, when the company announced that the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 would be the first ultra-wide screen display to support this high resolution.

The first slides showing Samsung's first 8K ultra wide screen displays will come from Samsung, the Odyssey Neo G9, but AMD confirmed that companies such as Dell, Asustek, Acer and LG will also support this higher resolution on future displays, although details of these monitors are not yet available.

The exact resolution of these future monitors is not known, but AMD lists 7680 x 2160 as the "8K widescreen" test resolution.

AMD did not confirm that these first 8K displays would support higher refresh rates (higher than 60Hz), but did hint at the ability to reach 165Hz. This is due to the fact that DisplayPort 2.1 XTX AMD supports this technology on its new RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT. Compared with DisplayPort 1.4, DisplayPort 2.1 also increased the 1440p display from the highest 480Hz refresh rate to 900Hz 4K from 240Hz to 480Hz.

A slide showing DisplayPort 2.1 achieving a higher refresh rate CTOnews.com learned that AMD made a big fuss about this because Nvidia's RTX 40 series graphics cards did not support DisplayPort 2.1, and even the flagship RTX 4090 remained on DisplayPort 1.4a. However, for 8K ultra wide screen, DisplayPort 1.4a can still support 135Hz refresh rate, but the standard 8K resolution is locked in 60Hz.

Although 8K sounds exciting, most PC gamers still use 1080p displays, even though there has been some significant growth in 1440p and 4K games over the past few years. However, AMD provides some performance charts on the performance of its RX 7900 XTX in 8K, hoping to prove why the era of 8K games has finally arrived.

In 8K ultra-wide mode, the RX 7900 XTX is said to reach 190 frames in call of Duty: modern Warfare 2 and 148 frames in the director's edited version of death stranded. At the same time, it can reach 96 frames in the standard 8K picture of "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" and 73 frames in "Mystery Sea: collection of Thieves' Legacy", all of which are tested at the maximum setting, but the FSR is turned on in performance mode, thus achieving such a high frame rate.

AMD said more details about the monitors will be given in 2023.
