Mohan joined Meta in January 2019 as vice president and general manager of India. During his tenure, Facebook applications, including Instagram and WhatsApp, have added more than 300 million users in India and made a series of ambitious investments.

A spokesman for Meta India said Manish Chopra, director and partner director of Meta India, would temporarily take over the vacancy left by Mohan's departure.

"over the past four years, Mohan has played an important role in shaping and expanding our business in India," Nicola Mendelssohn, vice president of Global Business Group at Meta, said in a statement. "We have a strong leadership team and will continue to be firmly committed to the Indian market and continue all our work and partnerships in the future."

After leaving, Mohan will join Meta competitor Snap and become president of Snap's Asia-Pacific operations, according to people familiar with the matter. Snap is the parent company of the photo-sharing app Snapchat.
