CTOnews.com, Nov. 3, Linux Lite lead developer and maintainer Jerry Bezencon recently announced the final release of the Ubuntu-based Linux Lite 6.2 distribution, which is aimed at Windows users who want to switch to Linux.

Linux Lite 6.2 uses a lightweight Xfce 4.16 desktop environment based on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish), which was released five months ago by Linux Lite 6.0.

CTOnews.com was informed that the highlights of the new version include the improved Lite Upgrade internal build utility, which has a new end-user dialog box, integrates with the latest version of the LibreOffice 7.3.Office Suite, and updates the Lite Tweaks built-in utility to improve kernel deletion, log deletion, and hostname settings.

In this release, utilities built inside Lite Software have also been updated to provide Shotcut video editors as an alternative to Openshot, and the Microsoft Teams application has been removed because it is no longer supported by Linux. The same is true of the Lite Sources internal build tool, which fixes code errors.

In addition, this version updates the Lite Patch internal build tool, handles potential update errors by adding new images, improves Lite Hardware Database to support more devices, updates the default set of Papirus icons, and adds new wallpapers.

Finally, the Task Manager (system Monitoring Center) application has obtained updated icons and fixed right-click operations to make it work anywhere, apt-key obsolescence warnings have been fixed, and various core applications and components have been updated.

Linux Lite 6.2 also brings fixes for applications that work with directories because Catfish opens instead of Thunar in some cases. This release is driven by the Linux 5.15 LTS kernel family that has long been supported by Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS.
