Slow door synchronization is an interesting photography theme, which can form a shadow in front and rear of an object. Slow door synchronization needs to be completed by the cooperation of slow door and flash, which is divided into "front curtain synchronization" and "rear curtain synchronization". Today, we talk in detail about the shooting principle and matters needing attention, so that we can fully master the slow door synchronous shooting techniques.

Slow door synchronization is a basic and interesting function, which can be set in the camera menu. After opening the slow door synchronization, you can choose front curtain synchronization or rear curtain synchronization.

Front curtain synchronization front curtain synchronization, when the shutter is just opened, the flash will light up and freeze the image of the object. A track of motion is left in front of the object.

As shown below:

02, the rear curtain is synchronized, before the shutter is closed, the flash lights up and freeze the image of the object. A trail of motion is left behind the object.

As shown below:

Slow door synchronization principle

Let's first review the slow door shooting, the object will leave a series of virtual shadows. Because during this period of time, the object will leave an image, and the brighter the object, the clearer it will be in the photo.

Then what can determine the brightness, there are two points, the first point is the brightness of the object itself, the luminous is often brighter than the non-luminous, so when shooting the tracks, what is left is the track of the lights. The second point is the exposure time of the object. 5 seconds in the photo is often brighter than 2 seconds. Understand this truth, it is easy to understand the principle of slow door synchronization.

Suppose a person is photographed with a slow door, if the person does not move, then the person will always be exposed, the background behind the person will be blocked, will not be exposed, and finally see a clear person. The joining person is mobile, and when the person appears, the person will leave an image. After the person walks over, the background will be continuously exposed, and the image will be left behind. In the final photo, both the person and the background can be seen, so the person will leave a movement track.

Then why does turning on the flash leave a clear image? because the flash will illuminate the person, although the exposure time in this position has not changed, the brightness of the person has increased a lot, so it will leave a clear image.

So when shooting slow door synchronization, whether it's front curtain synchronization or later you synchronize, it's easier to succeed in the following.

First, make sure that the brightness gap between the background and the theme is large enough, such as choosing a dark background, which is more conducive to the subject leaving a clear track.

Second, the flash can illuminate the subject, but does not image the background, so that the flash will only freeze the object, will not destroy the trajectory of the object, and will not let the background steal the position of the subject.

Third, choose a reasonable exposure time, coordinate the exposure time and the speed of object movement, which requires repeated attempts and get an optimal value.

In fact, you can use not only flash lights, but also other lights to take creative photos. You can also use the flash and the slow door to give full play to your imagination and take many interesting photos, such as the common stage shooting techniques in which the flash flashes several times in a row to achieve the effect of "separation".
