According to the latest data released by CleanTechnica, global sales of new energy vehicles reached 1.0402 million in September, breaking through the million mark for the first time and an increase of 51% over the same period last year.

Among them, sales in China accounted for more than 60%, accounting for 636000 vehicles, while 17000 in South Korea, 13000 in Japan and 8000 in Australia, all set a new high in sales of new energy vehicles in the region.

According to the data, pure electric cars accounted for 13% of all car sales in September, up 50% from a year earlier, while plug-in hybrids accounted for 17%, up 54% from a year earlier.

From January to September this year, global sales of new energy vehicles were 6.815 million, accounting for 13 per cent of the global car market, of which pure electric models accounted for 9.3 per cent.

Specific to each model, Tesla Model Y and Model 3 occupied the top two with sales of 113,000 and 69000 respectively, while Chinese brand BYD Song PLUS ranked third.

In addition, a number of BYD models are in the top 20, including Qin PLUS No. 5, Han No. 6, Dolphin No. 7, Yuan PLUS No. 8, Tang No. 10, Destroyer 05, No. 17. BYD has a total of seven models in the top 20 worldwide sales list.

In addition, Chinese brands ranking in the top 20 of the global new energy vehicle sales list include Wuling Hongguang MINI EV (No. 4), GAC AION S and AION Y (No. 11 and 12), Naji V (No. 13), ideal L9 (No. 14), Changan Lumin (No. 15) and Polar Krypton 001 (No. 19).
