To ask about my favorite notebook in 2022, there is nothing more than ThinkBook 14 +. As a business slim book, it unexpectedly has a rich interface as a game book, an omnipotent performance release at this level, and a unique brilliant screen. On SKU, ThinkBook 14 + also offers Core, Ruilong and the corresponding RTX 2050 unique version. This makes it difficult for many friends. What on earth do you choose for the Rui version and Rui long version?

In this article, CTOnews.com compares the advantages and disadvantages of the ThinkBook 14 + Core version with i5-12500H and the ThinkBook 14 + Auron version with R7-6800H, and gives some suggestions.

The design ThinkBook 14 + sharp dragon version is exactly the same as the core version of the mold, the body is a standard 14-inch business book size, BWH is 313mm long; 225mm wide; high 15.9mm. The fuselage is made of all-metal and weighs about 1.4kg, which is not particularly thin, which of course lays the foundation for its stacking.

Face A uses the frosting process, and the grayscale of the upper and lower parts is different, this design does have a high-end feeling.

The An and B sides support one-hand opening and closing, and the maximum opening and closing angle can reach 180 °. When the B side is expanded, there is a 2.5K resolution 90hz screen at 16:10. It takes into account both high resolution and high refresh rate.

We adjust the screen to the highest manual brightness, and then use the color calibrator to test the color gamut. The measured color gamut covers 99.6% of sRGB,74.9% 's Adobe RGB and 78.4% of P3 gamut. This color performance is still very good, enough to meet the needs of creative production.

The brightness is about 400nit, which is a big and bright screen. The only strange thing is that the default color temperature is warm, which may be done to prevent blue light.

The color accuracy performance is as follows, the red is slightly offset, but the overall performance is good.

There is a camera at the top of the screen, which provides Windows Hello face recognition function, which can be unlocked and unlocked.

The C-side keyboard is a standard Lenovo lightweight design with a tight feel and a white backlight below. The power button is at the top right, and although it looks like other fingerprint identification buttons, it does not support fingerprints.

The trackpad below is very large and feels good.

Finally, let's take a look at side D. The design of the D side is regular, but the foot pad is very thick, which can increase the air intake and bring better heat dissipation performance. There are two loudspeaker openings below and tuned by Harman Catton.

The interface is the biggest highlight of ThinkBook 14 +. In the shape of a 14-inch laptop, it is stuffed with a full-function Type-C interface, a Lightning 4 (USB4 in AMD version), which supports PD charging, video output and graphics card expansion, as well as a HDMI2.1 video interface with a USB 3.2 interface on the left and right sides, a hidden USB2.0 mouse receiver interface, and even a TF card slot and network cable interface. Such a rich interface is unique in a 14-inch lightweight book.

Hardware introduction next let's introduce the hardware specifications of Core i5-12500H. The biggest upgrade of Core i5-12500H is the new hybrid architecture based on intel 7 process. In a number of hybrid architecture of the new U, i5-12500H is a very cost-effective one. It has 4 performance cores and 8 energy efficiency cores, among which the performance core supports hyperthreading technology, with a total of 12 cores and 16 threads, which makes a leap in the multi-core performance of this generation. 18MB's three-level cache and 45W benchmark power consumption are consistent with those of the previous generation.

Next, let's introduce AMD's R7-6800H. The hardware specification of R7-6800H is 6nm process, which is still 8 cores and 16 threads, the main frequency of 3.2GHz, the Rui frequency of 4.7GHz, the three-level cache of 16MB, and the power consumption of TDP is also 45w. The biggest highlight of R7-6800H is that its core display has been upgraded to 680m of AMD's latest RDNA2 architecture, and the more advanced TSMC 6nm process can also bring better energy consumption ratio.

Overall, the i5-12500H mid-end processor has been able to beat the R7-6800H high-end processor in core parameters due to the huge improvements brought about by the 12-generation Core Heterogeneity. As the AMD 6 generation Ruilong has devoted all its energy to the improvement of nuclear display and energy consumption ratio, the improvement in the performance of the R7-6800H CPU is not obvious. So the i5-12500H is easy to compare with this generation of high-end sharp dragons.

As mentioned earlier, although the TDP of Core i5-12500H and R7-6800H is 45W, the power consumption of ThinkBook 14 + is about 55W because its performance is much higher than that of ordinary light and thin books. After 15 minutes, the temperature of Core version is about 78 ℃ and that of Ruilong version is about 83 ℃.

Then run the score in theory, CTOnews.com tested CPU-Z and R20, R23 for everyone, we can see that the multi-core performance of both has been played back and forth, while the single-core performance is i5-12500H has a huge lead.

Taking R7-6800H as the 100% benchmark for tabulation, we can see that i5-12500H is about 10% Rich 20% of a single core. The multicore performance is basically the same. It can be said that the theoretical performance of CPU i5-12500H is a win.

In terms of nuclear display, the nuclear display of i5-12500H is still the Xe of 80EU, compared with the advantage of Radeon 680m. In 3DMark Time Spy, the score of the graphics card is nearly half worse.

Productivity comparison we have also tested some running score software that represents productivity. First of all, the software CrossMark, which represents comprehensive office performance, scored 1862 points on ThinkBook 14 + Core version of i5-12500H.

And ThinkBook 14 + sharp dragon version here will be inferior, the score is about 1667 points, this gap is still very obvious.

PS image modification is the demand of many business users. In PugetBench For Ps, i5-12500H scored 944 points, while R7-6800H scored 850 points. It seems that PS software is more likely to eat single-core performance. I5-12500H with excellent CPU performance will have an advantage.

In the video clip test PugetBench For Pr, the i5-12500H still had a big lead, with a score of 452 points, compared with 301 points for the R7-6800H. The reason for this is that although the performance of AMD kernel display is powerful, the ability of video codec has always been a deficiency. The Intel Xe kernel is more powerful in the video.

Battery life is also the focus of many business users, which is the strength of the Ruilong version. We use PCMark8 modern office testing. The measured score of the Core version is 4110 points, with a duration of 4 hours and 44 minutes. The Ruilong version scored 3010 points and lasted as long as 10 hours and 30 minutes. The core version has higher scores, while the Ruilong version lasts longer.

In the above creative production and integrated office software we tested, i5-12500H is slightly better with more cores and stronger single-core performance in most projects. It seems that ThinkBook 14 + Core version is more suitable for heavy work. The ThinkBook 14 + acute dragon version benefits from the excellent low-load energy consumption ratio of 6800H, which is more suitable for light work.

Game comparison: can ThinkBook 14 + play games outside the business office? Due to the high score and high screen swiping of 90Hz, we still hope it can run at least more than 90 frames in e-sports 's game. We manually lowered the picture quality to 1200p and tested three mainstream e-sports games.

Next, let's test some common games. The first is "CS:GO". Under its own BenchMark, both computers can run more than 90 frames.

I5-12500H average 111 frames:

R7-6800H average 177 frames:

In another e-sports game "Watch Vanguard: return", the two can also meet the high frame to play freely.

I5-12500H training ground average 135 frames:

R7-6800H average 218 frames:

In the "League of Legends" who pays more attention to the performance of CPU, the gap between the two is not so big.

I5-12500H average of 155 frames:

R7-6800H average 159 frames:

Generally speaking, although the physical performance of the two graphics cards is indeed poor, but in the actual e-sports game experience, they can run all over the 90Hz electronic competition screen. So the actual experience won't make much difference. As for the experience of 3A masterpieces, let's leave it to RTX 2050.

To sum up, the mold of ThinkBook 14 + can be said to be the best business mold that the author has seen in recent years. With a perfect balance of design, scalability and performance release, it is unparalleled in the 14-inch size. As for the choice of Core version and Rui long version, from the test results, the CPU performance of Cool version i5-12500H can even counterattack R7-6800H, which is more suitable for high-intensity work such as picture trimming and cutting, while R7-6800H has the advantage of higher energy efficiency and is suitable for light work.

But don't forget that ThinkBook 14 + also has a unique version with RTX 2050, and the author actually recommends the i5-12500H+RTX 2050 version. Due to the introduction of unique features, Core's disadvantages in energy efficiency and nuclear display have been eliminated, and the stronger CPU performance of i5-12500H has in turn promoted the performance release of RTX 2050, which is a rare business omnipotent at 14 inches. And the price of the core version i5 is generally about 500 yuan cheaper than the sharp dragon version R7, if you like, you might as well consider the ThinkBook 14 + core solo version.
