CTOnews.com, Nov. 3, Honda said that it attaches great importance to GM's partnership and will maintain cooperation on low-cost electric vehicles in the future. By the end of the 1920s, they will jointly launch more Ultium-based Prologue SUV sister models.

"the alliance with GM is a big weapon for us." Honda's chief executive, president and executive director Toshihiro Sanbu summed up his ideas in this concise sentence during a round-table discussion with the media last week.

When it comes to the company's transition to zero carbon emissions, Toshihiro Mitsuishi and senior executive Masaji Aoyama praised the advantages of Honda's partnership with GM, whether it's a 2024 Prologue electric SUV based on Ultrum or future products based on a platform jointly developed by the two auto giants.

"We believe that overall co-operation is mutually beneficial, not only for [vehicle] platforms, but also for procurement and procurement," Mr Aoyama said. "Cooperation is the future."

It is said that although the 2024 Honda Prologue relies mainly on GM's technology-its Ultium platform and battery are shared with the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, the next partnership between the two companies is likely to have more Honda DNA.

Honda said it would launch an electric car with a starting price of less than $30,000 (219000 yuan) in 2027, featuring more intelligence sharing between GM and the Japanese carmaker. The new project, codenamed AEV (affordable Electric vehicle), will include the best products of each brand.

"both Honda and GM have enough technology to build our own cars," Mr. Aoyama said. "so now engineers from both entities are disclosing the technology we have and then trying to discuss which technologies are best for both sides."

This seems to mean that the AEV project may be a design entirely from Honda, although it is more likely that both parties contribute their own specific components.

Moreover, their cooperation is not limited to the car itself. Both GM and Honda are evaluating their logistics and production facilities to determine the most effective way to obtain the materials, manpower and space needed to produce entry-level electric cars. This is part of the two companies' goal of achieving carbon neutrality, GM by 2040 and Honda by 2050.

"from now on, the cycle from procurement and materials to resources is a whole," Aoyama said. "We have to achieve everything in this range, not just pure electric cars."

CTOnews.com has reported that General Motors (GM) and Honda (Honda) said in April that they were planning to jointly develop low-cost electric vehicles based on GM's next-generation Ultium battery technology. The models will include a compact crossover, which is expected to go on sale in North America in 2027.

Doug Parks, executive vice president of global product development, said GM plans to launch an electric car that costs less than the Chevrolet Equinox streetcar.
