CTOnews.com, November 2 (Xinhua)-- Tonight, the first reviews of Apple's Apple TV 4K (2022) have been lifted, with reviewers saying that Apple will add support for fast media switching variable refresh rate (QMS VRR) through tvOS software updates.

QMS VRR prevents a black screen when switching between content played at different frame rates. Users who have turned on the frame rate match content setting may be familiar with this situation, "because it occurs almost when the actual show or movie of most application streaming starts to play."

"there is another future proof of the third-generation Apple TV 4K: later this year, the software update will add support for the so-called QMS VRR. This allows compatible TVs to switch between different frame rates without any black screen or obvious picture interruption. How many televisions can use QMS VRR? well, it's zero right now. But we will see them enter the market next year."

It is worth noting that QMS VRR does not prevent a black screen when switching between color space or HDR content. The new video quality feature is set to be added through tvOS software updates. It is not clear whether this feature will also appear on the second-generation Apple TV 4K, which is possible because the device introduced support for high frame rate HDR content last year, up to 60FPS and HDMI 2.1.

CTOnews.com learned that the main new features of the Apple TV 4K (2022) include the A15 bionic chip, which supports HDR10+, starting at $129, the highest 128GB storage space, a thinner and lighter fanless design, and a newer Siri remote control.
