Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

On November 1, CTOnews.com, Sony announced its results for the second quarter of fiscal 2022:

Sales in the second quarter were 2.7519 trillion yen (currently about 135.393 billion yuan), up 16% from a year earlier.

Operating profit is 344 billion yen (currently about 16.925 billion yuan), up 8% from a year earlier. Previously, 10 analysts surveyed by Refinitiv estimated it at 300 billion yen, higher than industry expectations.

Net profit attributable to Sony Group shareholders was 264 billion yen (currently about 12.989 billion yuan), up 24% from a year earlier.

According to the financial report, Sony PS5 shipped 25 million units worldwide as of September 30, 2022, and PS5 shipments reached 3.3 million units in the second quarter of fiscal 2022.

Sony sold 6250 million games on PS4 and PS5 platforms in the second quarter of fiscal 2022, down 1390 million from a year earlier. Of these, 6.7 million were first-party games, down 900000 from the same period last year, with digital versions accounting for 63 per cent of total sales.

Sony's new PS Plus membership was 45.4 million, down 1.8 million from a year earlier. Monthly active users reached 102 million, compared with 104 million last year.

Sony said it plans to increase production of PS5, which has been affected by supply chain chaos, and expand its game portfolio on other platforms.

CTOnews.com learned that Sony raised its full-year operating profit to 1.16 trillion yen (about 57.072 billion yuan) from the original forecast of 1.11 trillion yen (currently about 54.612 billion yuan) as a result of the better-than-expected performance. The music publishing business and box office receipts for films and TV dramas continued to remain stable, with both sectors raising their full-year profit forecasts.

However, Sony cut its full-year forecast for the games business by 12 per cent to 225 billion yen (currently about 11.07 billion yuan) because of falling software sales by third-party developers and costs in dollar terms.
