Among them, Hebei Fengning Pumped Storage Power Station is the largest installed pumped storage power station in the world, with a total installed capacity of 3.6 million kilowatts, a total investment of more than 19.2 billion yuan, and a total of 12 pumped storage generator sets installed. The person in charge of the power station introduced that its reservoir storage capacity is 45 million cubic meters, one-time full storage can store nearly 40 million kilowatt hours of electricity, after putting into operation, the annual power generation will reach 6.6 billion kilowatt hours.

Fengning Pumped Storage Power Station is to build reservoirs on the mountain and at the foot of the mountain respectively. Through power grid dispatching, surplus wind power and photovoltaic energy are used to pump water to the mountain at low power consumption; at peak power consumption, water is discharged to generate electricity, which not only stores surplus clean energy, but also serves as stabilizer, regulator and balancer of power system.

Up to now, there are 70 pumped storage power stations under construction in the operation area of the State Grid, with an installed capacity of 85.24 million kilowatts, 3.2 times and 4.1 times of 2012 respectively. It is estimated that the installed capacity will reach 100 million kilowatts by 2030.
