According to news in the morning of November 1, Beijing time, famous writer Stephen King became unhappy after Elon Musk took over Tiwtter.

After completing his acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion last week, Musk is reportedly planning to charge blue certified users a fee of $20 a month to keep their blue certificates. Blue-certified users are the real accounts of celebrities, politicians, journalists and other public figures.

Stephen King said he would leave Twitter if the plan really started. "do I have to pay $20 a month to keep my blue certification?" he said. "they should pay me. If this plan is implemented, I will disappear like Enron."

His attitude also highlights the risks Musk faces in reforming Twitter and opposition to whether most people are willing to pay $20 a month and $240 a year for a blue certification logo.

This is essentially a bill to your high-profile users, and while it may increase Twitter's subscription revenue and diversify it beyond the company's core advertising model, the change could also drive away some important Twitter users.

Many social networks, such as TikTok and Meta, are doing the opposite, funding the bigwigs and influential people who use their platforms to boost growth by satisfying those who produce the most engaged content.

The change will also open the door to fake accounts of journalists, celebrities, government officials and organizations, which could lead to a surge in the spread of false information on Twitter. Mr Musk has criticised strict social media management, portraying himself as an advocate of "freedom of expression". The reduction of verification marks and lax auditing guidelines could be a perfect storm, leading to unlimited misinformation and conspiracy theories.

Stephen King is not the only public figure who opposes the potential plan.

Nate Silver, editor of the political analysis site FiveThirtyEight, also said on Twitter that he was "probably the perfect target for the idea" because he was "affordable" and "not particularly opposed to Musk", but he "has created a lot of valuable free content for Twitter over the years, so he will never pay for it."

Josh Marshall, founder of the political news site Talking Points Memo, wrote on Twitter: "I think they will face a rough surprise. How many people are willing to pay $20 a month for a blue logo?"

Musk experienced chaos in his first few days as the owner of Twitter, and the challenge he faced was not just the threat of public figures to leave Twitter.

After taking over Twitter, he immediately fired a number of executives, including CEO Palag Agrawal. He is also reportedly preparing to lay off 25 per cent of the company's staff.
