CTOnews.com, Oct. 30-Apple has released updates to Apple TV apps for smart TVs and other devices, bringing HDR10 + support for Apple TV + streaming and iTunes movies.

The launch of tvOS 16 adds a variety of features, including support for third-generation Apple TV 4K video streams using HDR10 +. Since the release of this version, Apple has begun to bring the same support to third-party hardware that uses Apple TV applications.

Users of smart TV models such as Samsung are starting to get upgraded Apple TV apps, FlatPanelsHD reported. Content from Apple TV + and iTunes movie rentals shows support for HDR10+-- as an additional HDR option, and has previously supported basic HDR10 and Dolby horizons.

CTOnews.com learned that HDR10 + is a standard that adds dynamic metadata to HDR10 so that images on TV can be more accurately optimized on a scene-by-scene basis throughout the content.

Although a TV can display HDR10 content, it does need HDR10 + support to display HDR10 + video. If it is connected to a separate streaming device, it must also support HDR10 + to work.

However, in order to add support to the content first, the studio must provide Apple with the HDR10 + master file. Since only a few studios have actually released content using HDR10 +, many of the content provided through Apple online services will not be widely available for quite a long time.
