According to the pictures shared by Internal Archive on Twitter, we can see the prototype of Pixel 2, as evidenced by various identification stickers and bar codes.

Seen from the front, it looks a lot like the mass-produced Pixel 2, except that the 8MP front camera on the top left is replaced by an infrared front camera, and on the right is an infrared LED.

The prototype is also equipped with a "IrisDemo" app that allows users to "verify" and "enroll" the iris. Users need to place their eyes in two "look here" circles.

Google finally chose facial recognition in the Pixel 4 series, and with subsequent improvements, Pixel 7 uses depth-based facial recognition. Although iris recognition is not used on mobile phones, Google has expanded the use of iris recognition in the business world, using iris verification for its data center pass.

CTOnews.com learned that Google Pixel 2's iris recognition technology was not the first in 2017, and that earlier Microsoft Lumia 950 Galaxy Note 950 XL (2015) and Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (2016) installed it, but new phones launched in the past two years have become less and less used.
