Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, October 30 (Xinhua)-- Elon Musk ordered company-wide layoffs at Twitter on Saturday, according to the New York Times. It is not clear how many workers will be affected by the so-called layoffs, but sources told the New York Times that some departments will be more affected than others.
Earlier reports said Mr Musk wanted to reduce Twitter's staff by 75 per cent. However, according to people familiar with the matter, Musk told Twitter employees on Wednesday that he did not plan to lay off 75 per cent of his staff after taking over Twitter, according to Bloomberg.
Twitter currently has about 7500 employees, and the New York Times points out that some managers have been asked to provide lists of departing employees.
CTOnews.com learned that it was reported that the layoffs could occur before November 1, when employees are expected to receive their stock grant on the same day, which "usually accounts for a significant portion of their salary." According to the New York Times, if Musk fired employees before this date, he may not have to pay the money. Twitter didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter on Friday and fired a number of executives, including former chief executive Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal and policy director Vijaya Gadde, after taking ownership.
It is not entirely clear what Mr Musk plans to do to Twitter when the dust settles, but he recently said he wanted the site to become a "common digital town square where beliefs can be discussed in a healthy way without resorting to violence." He calls himself a "free speech absolutist" so that users do not have to worry about the future of content censorship on the platform, but says he will not make it a "free view of hell" and plans to set up a content mediation committee.
