In the settings menu of the latest Canary version of Chrome (chrome://settings/ performance), a new performance page has recently appeared with switches for both Memory Saver (memory saving) and Energy Saver (power saving) modes.

CTOnews.com learned that when you turn on the Memory Saver state, Chrome displays an icon similar to the car dashboard on the right side of the address bar.

For example, as shown in the image above, you can free 127MB memory when you freeze this tab, but you can also set it to a whitelist in the Memory Saver settings to prevent them from being accidentally released. In addition, when you click on the small icon that looks like a car speedometer in the address bar of one of the tabs, you will see a pop-up window showing how much memory has been released for other tasks.

On the other hand, Energy Saver mode is also useful for laptops, and when you turn it on, Chrome browsers save battery power by limiting background activity and visual effects such as smooth scrolling and video frame rate, thereby reducing power consumption and increasing battery life.

Currently, these new features are only available on the latest Chrome Canary, but Google seems to be aware of the problem of browsers taking up system resources. It is hoped that all these new features will soon enter the stable channel and eventually be launched on multiple platforms.
