CTOnews.com learned that the main line of the Xining-Chengdu high-speed railway has a total length of 836.5 kilometers, with a design speed of 200km per hour, with a total of 29 stations, of which only Xining, East and West, East of Qingbai River and East Chengdu are existing stations, while the other stations are newly built stations. The railway department said that the Xining-Chengdu high-speed railway is part of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network of Lanzhou and Xining to Guangzhou. The whole line is divided into four sections, of which:

The west section from Xining to Haidong and the east section from Qingbai River to Chengdu have been operated on the same line with Lanxin high-speed railway and Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway respectively.

The eastern section of the Huangshengguan to Qingbaijiang River under construction will be operated on the same line as the Chengdu-Lanzhou high-speed railway under construction.

The construction of the section from Haixi to Huangshengguan is 502.5 kilometers long, with a construction period of 7.5 years, with bridges and tunnels accounting for 80 per cent of the total.

According to reports, after the full line of the Xining-Chengdu high-speed railway is completed and opened to traffic, it will greatly facilitate the travel of people of all ethnic groups along the line, strengthen exchanges between the Lanzhou (Xi Ning) urban agglomeration and the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, and promote the interconnection of the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "Yangtze River Economic Belt".
