E-cigarettes are included in the scope of smoking ban in public places, that is, smoking is prohibited in indoor public places, indoor workplaces, public transport and outdoor areas of some public places (including e-cigarettes).

At the same time, the Shanghai Health Promotion Committee also launched a new version of the no-smoking logo, which includes e-cigarette patterns.

The nicotine contained in e-cigarettes is highly addictive and can cause long-term adverse consequences to the brain development of fetuses, children and adolescents, leading to learning disabilities and anxiety disorders. Harmful substances such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds and tobacco-specific nitrosamines can be detected in electronic cigarette liquid. Electronic smoke release (second-hand aerosol) is a new source of air pollution, which can also detect harmful substances such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, metal, nicotine, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds, and has cytotoxicity.

CTOnews.com learned that in November last year, the State Council made it clear that e-cigarettes were "new tobacco products", with reference to the regulations on the implementation of China's Tobacco Monopoly Law. According to the relevant state regulations, in order to control the impact of e-cigarette release on the health of public places, protect public health, eliminate and reduce the harm of e-cigarettes, Shanghai has decided to include e-cigarettes in the scope of smoking ban in public places.
