Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, October 28 (Xinhua) Toyota recalled all bZ4X SUV shortly after its launch and stopped production just two months after its launch due to a potential "loose hub bolt" problem. Even if the new car has solved the problem, the sales figures still don't seem optimistic.

Toyota's Wonmachi plant in Japan resumed production on Oct. 6, but the process of re-listing bZ4X remains fraught with difficulties, especially in its home market. According to Reuters, the recall is not the only reason for Toyota bZ4X's poor sales in Japan.

CTOnews.com learned that Japan was the first market for the electric SUV, which has been on sale since May 2022.

BZ4X provides exclusive rental services in Japan through Toyota's Kinto division and resumed accepting lease orders on October 26. In an effort to attract interest in bZ4X, the carmaker announced that it would halve the one-time fee for signing a lease.

When the electric SUV was launched in May, Toyota charged 107800 yen (about 5325 yuan) a month for the first four years (10-year contracts) in addition to an one-time application fee of 770,000 yen.

Starting this week, Toyota announced that it would change the application fee to 385000 yen (about 19019 yuan), while the monthly fee fell by 1100 yen (54 yuan). Shinya Kotera, president of Kinto, said customers who register in advance are also eligible for discounts.

"in retrospect, we thought the price was a little too high, and customers pointed it out," he said, adding that bZ4X is now available for corporate leasing.

Nevertheless, a senior Toyota official told Reuters that while the decision was "painful", it was unlikely to lead to a significant increase in sales.
