Sina Technology News Beijing time on October 27 morning news, it is reported that self-driving startup Argo AI will close its business, its employees and some parts will be taken over by its main supporters Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen Motor Company.

Argo employees are reported to have been told that some of them will receive offers from two carmakers, Ford and Volkswagen, but it is not clear how many will go to Ford and Volkswagen or lose their jobs.

Ford has yet to comment, while Argo AI and Volkswagen declined to comment.

Argo AI said in July that it had cut about 150 jobs in the process of adjusting its business plan. After the layoffs, the company still has more than 2000 employees worldwide.

Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, Argo AI was developing the technology behind driverless cars. By that time, the company had received at least $3.6 billion in investment, mainly from Ford and Volkswagen.
