Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, Oct. 26 (Xinhua)-- five days before the social media platform was proposed in April, billionaire Elon Musk mused: "is Twitter dying?"

According to Reuters, the truth is far from simple as celebrities are fading away, and internal research shows that Twitter is losing a large number of heavy users, which may be the biggest challenge Musk faces as he completes his $44 billion acquisition proposal.

Twitter researchers in a piece entitled "where are Twitter users?" The number of heavy users has been declining since the outbreak, according to internal documents. According to reports, although "Twitter heavy users" account for less than 10% of the total monthly users, they generate 90% of tweets and half of global revenue.

The document mentions that "Twitter heavy users" are defined as people who log in 6-7 days a week and send 3-4 tweets a week. In addition, the survey also shows that the appeal of the Twitter English platform to advertisers continues to decline.

The study also found a shift in interest among Twitter's most active English users over the past two years, which could reduce the platform's attractiveness to advertisers. Cryptocurrency and NSFW content are the most interesting topics for heavy English users, according to the report. At the same time, these users' interest in news, sports and entertainment is waning.

Twitter declined to say how many tweets were posted in English or how much money it made from English-speaking users, but some analysts said they were important to Twitter's business.

Jasmine Enberg, an analyst at Insider Intelligence, said the platform generated more advertising revenue from the US alone than all other markets combined in the fourth quarter, and that most ads in the US were probably aimed at English-speaking users.

The "disturbing" trend of a decline in Twitter's heavy users could be overshadowed by an overall increase in the number of daily active users and classified as a decline in the company's most active users, the study said. The study does not draw specific conclusions on why the number of heavy users of the platform is decreasing.

Asked to comment on the findings of the internal documents on Monday, a Twitter spokesman said: "We regularly study a variety of trends that evolve based on what is happening around the world. Our overall number of users continues to grow, reaching 238 million mDAU in the second quarter of 2022."

CTOnews.com has reported that more than 500 employees have left Twitter in the past 90 days after the company was locked in a court battle with Tesla's chief executive, Elon Musk, over acquisitions, according to the US website Punks & Pinstripes. These people are being targeted by tech giants such as Google, Apple, Amazon and Meta, adding to the dilemma Twitter is facing.
