CTOnews.com, Oct. 26 (Xinhua)-- Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of global marketing, said today that in order to comply with new EU rules, Apple will have to switch to USB-C on the iPhone and other devices that still use Lightning interfaces, according to MacRumors.

At the Wall Street Journal's Tech Live event, Joswiak said Apple would eventually respect the EU's decision to require all consumer electronic devices to use universal chargers. Joswiak said, "We must comply," indirectly confirming that Apple will turn to USB-C in the future.

CTOnews.com learned that on October 24 local time, the Council of Europe approved that from 2024, all kinds of electronic devices sold in the EU, such as mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, and so on, must uniformly use the Type-C charging interface, and consumers can also choose whether to buy a separate charger when purchasing electronic equipment.

In May, Apple analyst Guo Mingyi predicted that Apple would consider moving the iPhone 15 series from the Lightning port to the USB-C interface in 2023. Later, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman confirmed the rumor and said people familiar with the matter had revealed that Apple was already testing the new machine.
