"developers complain that there are a large number of gambling ads in their App Store list and are out of control, and criticize Apple for being too greedy! "

IT House, October 26 (Xinhua)-- Apple announced today that App Store now has a new advertising space that allows developers to advertise their applications in more locations.

Starting today, developers can now advertise their apps in the "you might also like" section at the bottom of App Store's "Today" home page and the list of individual applications, covering all countries except China. Ads have begun to appear in these places, as usual, with a blue background and a "Ad" icon for easy identification.

"with new Today tags and product page ads, you can push to find your app at more times throughout App Store-when users touch it for the first time, search for something specific and browse the app to download," the Apple announcement said.

This marks the first time that developers have been able to place ads in the "Today" tab. so far, the "Today" tab only shows content carefully selected by the App Store editorial department, without any paid placement. With the "you might like it" section, developers can now promote their applications at the bottom of other apps' pages.

Legal expert Florian Mueller said in a tweet that "you might like" ads are "another way to increase the effective application tax rate, forcing developers to buy ads on their own app pages to prevent others from attracting users away".

CTOnews.com learned that App Store's ads had previously been limited to keyword-based search results and the "suggestions" section of search tags. With the ads in the "Today" tab and the "you might like it" section, App Store now offers a total of four advertising options. Apple first announced plans to expand advertising in its app store in July.

In August, Bloomberg Mark Gurman said Apple hopes to nearly triple its current advertising revenue to at least $10 billion a year in the future. Starting next year, search results ads based on keywords will appear in Apple's mapping app, Gurman said.
