CTOnews.com, Oct. 25 (Xinhua)-- Apple today called on its suppliers to take new measures to address greenhouse gas emissions and take further steps to achieve decarbonization.

Apple said in a press release today that it would review the work of its manufacturing partners to encourage them to achieve decarbonization in Apple-related businesses, use 100 per cent renewable energy, and would track and audit progress annually.

Apple will also work specifically with suppliers who have made "measurable progress in decarbonization" and encourage suppliers to address greenhouse gas emissions outside their Apple production, and provide suppliers with a set of free e-learning resources and on-site training courses through the clean energy program.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple itself has been carbon neutral since 2020, but its long-term goal is to achieve carbon neutrality throughout the supply chain and product life cycle by 2030. Apple's emissions have been reduced by 40% since 2015, mainly due to improved energy efficiency, low-carbon design, carbon neutralization of corporate operations, and the transition of its supply chain to renewable electricity.

Apple said more than 200 suppliers, which account for more than 70 per cent of its direct manufacturing spending, have committed to using clean energy such as wind or solar energy in all its production, including Corning, Nitto Electric, SK Hynix, STMicroelectronics, TSMC and Yutong.

Apple also announced new initiatives aimed at decarbonizing the global economy and promoting new climate-centric solutions, including investing in large-scale solar and wind facilities in Europe and building partnerships to support companies' shift to clean energy. and projects to promote natural carbon removal.
