CTOnews.com Back in 2016, Microsoft released the Unified Update Platform (UUP) to make Windows updates more seamless across devices. Microsoft claims that UUP will reduce the time it takes to check for updates by reducing the amount of data sent to client devices and reducing processing time. In other words, more processing is done on the server side than on the device itself.

UUP is now quite mature since its initial launch, and Microsoft is now announcing that the service is in public preview. UUP basically acts as a connecting organization between Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Microsoft Configuration Manager to ensure a fast and seamless update process.

CTOnews.com learned that UUP adds a number of features to the Windows update process, including a one-reboot upgrade, the ability to install optional features and language packs, and simplified content management through a service approach.

UUP is expected to go live early next year, and after this full launch, all updates to Windows will be delivered through UUP.
