Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
It is difficult to come up with a perfect solution.
On September 29, Google suddenly announced that it would shut down the Stadia cloud game server on January 18, 2023. Google is not responsible for keeping any game records left by users on Stadia, and most game archives disappear the moment the Stadia server shuts down.
A few exceptions are large-scale games, which may support cross-platform services or receive special attention from developers. Bethesda and CDPR, for example, have allowed the Stadia progress of "Ancient Scrolls OL" and "Cyberpunk 2077" to be transferred to the PC platform. Ubisoft, "Destiny 2" developer Bungie, and "Killer" series developer IO Interactive have also made promises one after another to find ways to transfer archiving or game ownership.
And R Star's "Wild dart OL" (hereinafter referred to as RDO), does not support cross-platform services, and has not announced any policy on the progress of transfer, which has become an exception. On social media, there is no shortage of players who play RDR through Stadia, asking R Star to transfer their archives and turn to protest when they find it is fruitless.
The player who has the most say is Colour, a Youtube video blogger in Canada. He has spent about 5908 hours on RDO on Stadia, has millions of dollars in the game and calls himself a "millionaire" on Twitter. The Stadia platform was launched in November 2019 and has been operating for more than 1130 days. On average, he plays more than five hours of games a day.
Nearly 6000 hours of progress is about to come to naught, and Colour can't contain his anger.
"No, you won't understand how angry I am," Colour pointed out in an October 2 video. Stadia shutting down the server will have a huge impact not only on himself, but also on many RDO players.
Colour himself has no shortage of expensive hardware. But most of his friends who immerse themselves in the western world don't have their own game consoles or personal computers. For them, Stadia is cheaper and "the only option they can afford, or the only option to play RDO," because the only thing they need to buy is games.
In a follow-up tweet, Colour listed several irreplaceable advantages of RDO for Stadia. Stadia can run RDO smoothly at a rate of 60 frames, while the host platform supports only 30 frames. A high-configuration computer can run to a higher frame rate, but he cannot accept the rampant gaming environment of the PC platform, while the cloud-based Stadia independent platform has no plug-in problem at all.
Colour emailed R Star customer service and made a public request on Twitter, hoping that R Star would be kind enough to help all RDO players on Stadia transfer archives. Several game media reported what happened to Colour, and he forwarded them one by one.
On October 3, Colour received an automatic reply from R Star customer service: "We will not provide any information about this issue because we are more focused on helping players who encounter technical problems in the game."
Considering that R Star has never been enthusiastic about the operation and update of RDO, this result is completely within the expectation of Colour. Some RDO content creators expressed their sincere condolences to him via Twitter, but he didn't want to and didn't give up, @ R Star's official Twitter every few days.
"Hi, R Star, are you awake? remember me? maybe there are thousands of Stadia players?"
It is difficult to infer how much Colour's persistence has played a role. But on October 20, R Star took the initiative to contact him, not via email, but via private Twitter messages.
In its private letter, R Star promised that players can associate their accounts with R Star's authentication platform Social Club and transfer the game progress on Stadia to another existing account on PC or the host platform. The character's experience, professional tokens, RDO$ and gold bars will all be retained. Items that players have spent money to unlock will still be lost, but they are negligible compared to the millions of assets earned in thousands of hours.
An important condition is attached to the transfer policy. Players must log in to the game at least once in the 30 days before Google announces the suspension of its Stadia service, or they will not be able to transfer progress.
Colour was overjoyed at R Star's decision. But he also noticed that what R Star does is not to "transfer" or overwrite the archive, but to simply and rudely inject data from the Stadia platform into the player's new character account. The experience value of the old character will be added directly to the new character, and the new character will receive all the income of the old account at once, so that the previously unlocked items can be bought back. This is very conscientious, but also a little lazy.
Colour shared the story of his friend Ash. After transferring the 552-level, 3521-hour RDO archive on Stadia to Xbox, her new character earned millions in savings within five minutes of being online, and rose from level 52 to level 608 after a game of PVP. And because the duration of the game has not been inherited, Ash's record shows that it is only 58 hours, which is completely out of line with her million-dollar assets.
Tuyuan Twitter @ AshhRDO has no plans to transfer the archive until the next game platform is decided. He has a new account on PS5, but he is also considering the Xbox chosen by most of his friends. He predicted that after his transfer, there would be less than 10 hours of game records left, with 1500 gold bars and 2 million savings.
Due to the strange and harsh prerequisites set by R Star, some players who also have hundreds or thousands of hours on Stadia failed to get the favor of R Star simply because they did not log on to the game within that month. At present, Colour is actively contacting these Stadia players to continue to spread their situation and actively fight for the right to transfer archives for them.
Although not all RDO players on the Stadia platform have access to this valuable opportunity, they are absolutely lucky compared to most games on Stadia and their groups of players.
