According to 9to5 Google reports, in related cases,"burning screen" affected Pixel Watch (Bluetooth/ Wi-Fi), after the watch was used for five days and AOD was always enabled for at least 12 hours a day. If AOD is turned off, the problem disappears in about 30 minutes. That is, once the watch dial is displayed again, it will reproduce. CTOnews.com has learned that the Pixel Watch is equipped with a 320PPI AMOLED display that offers "up to 1000 nits brightness" and that the affected watches have enabled adaptive brightness.

According to Google, there is no permanent burn-out on the Pixel Watch, but a temporary problem with afterimages. The company insists it is "not a precursor to screen burn" and that it disappears over time, although "the longer it is on screen, the longer it disappears."

In terms of protection measures, Pixel Watch uses "software algorithms that change the brightness of illuminated pixels every minute to reduce the possibility of image retention." Google said "most users shouldn't experience this."

"This extends the time before image retention is seen and reduces the time for afterimages to disappear. If the user does experience this, it disappears over time, but the user can also turn off the AOD and/or sleep using bedtime mode so that the screen stays off at night. "

Historically, Android Wear and Wear OS have provided burn-in protection, gradually shifting pixels on the screen over time so that the end user does not notice the anomaly.

Android Dev says,"On screens that are prone to burn-in, avoid using pure color blocks in ambient mode. If the icon or image includes solid color blocks, a safe version of burn-in protection should also be provided. "

Since the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL introduced this feature in 2017, Pixel phones have not suffered from widespread burn-in issues related to AOD.
