Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Oct. 24, according to the latest survey released by AOL research software company Qualtrics, as inflation drives up the prices of food and other necessities, more than half (57%) of American employees are looking for new jobs or more overtime to earn more income.
More than 60 per cent of working parents surveyed said they wanted to work longer hours to get higher pay. The survey, conducted between August and September, surveyed more than 1000 full-time workers over the age of 18.
In last year's wave of resignations, employees quit mainly because they wanted to feel more value at work, or because they made ensuring mental health a top priority. Although the turnover rate of US workers is still higher than it was before the outbreak, the Qualtrics survey found that more employees quit because they were looking for higher pay.
"as budgets tighten, employees are looking for ways to cope with the rising cost of living, including finding new jobs," said Benjamin Granger, Qualtrics's chief workplace psychologist. For companies, employee turnover means high costs, so it is important for companies to know which employees are likely to leave and why so that they can make adjustments to reduce turnover and retain key employees. "
Compared with last year, 64 per cent of employees surveyed said it was now more difficult for them to pay the cost of living. According to the survey, nearly 70% of working parents said their wages could not meet the cost of living. In addition to the impact of inflation on necessities such as food and baby milk powder, work-related costs, such as transportation and parenting, are increasing as more people return to the office.
A study by the Brookings Institution showed that it costs an estimated $310605 to raise a child because of rising inflation.
The Qualtrics survey also found that 18 per cent of office workers cut their living expenses by moving to places with lower living costs, while 13 per cent planned to move to save money. Working parents are twice as likely to move to cities where the cost of living is lower than those without children.
Thirty-seven per cent of employees surveyed said they were looking for another job with a higher salary; more than half admitted that they had or planned to look for another job; and 43 per cent of workplace parents said they were looking for a new job. and nearly half are looking for a second job.
However, people's desire for a second job or part-time job is not entirely due to inflation. In a survey of 2001 adults in 2021, 34 per cent of office workers said they were engaged in various sidelines. Nearly 40% of respondents said they started a sideline to do something interesting, while nearly 30% did it to learn new skills.
The Wall Street Journal interviewed six American employees in 2021 who admitted to having multiple full-time jobs, some earning as much as $600000 a year. The extra income is used in a variety of places, such as paying off student loan debts or buying luxury goods.
