CTOnews.com, October 23, according to China Mobile Research Institute, China Mobile recently completed the first batch of 5G RedCap end-to-end laboratory tests in conjunction with Huawei, ZTE and Zhan Rui.

According to reports, this laboratory test is based on 5G low frequency (700MHz) and intermediate frequency (2.6GHz), effectively verifies the end-to-end basic functions and business performance of RedCap, is an important milestone in the development of 5G RedCap, and lays a solid foundation for accelerating the ecological maturity and commercial deployment of RedCap.

This test validates key technologies and performance test cases such as user identification and access control of RedCap, resource control based on dedicated BWP, mobility management and interoperation between different systems, service peak, etc., and completes VoNR call service under 5G R17 RedCap network for the first time, laying an important foundation for RedCap to support wearable, video surveillance, power production and other services. On the other hand, RedCap can inherit all kinds of excellent features of 5G NR, such as low latency, high reliability, business guarantee, data does not leave the factory, low power consumption, strong coverage and many other advantages.

CTOnews.com learned that in order to meet the diversified business needs of 5G, 3GPP R17 proposed a 5G lightweight (reduced-capability, RedCap) terminal, which can effectively reduce terminal cost, size and power consumption through terminal tailoring on the premise of ensuring business requirements and performance. RedCap is oriented to medium-and high-speed application scenarios, complements the middle zone of 5G capacity, has the advantages of miniaturization and low cost, can achieve the balance of bandwidth, cost, performance and power consumption, and has a broad application prospect in the Internet of everything.
