Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com October 23, 12 years ago, on October 21, 2010, Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7 around the world. It was released in the United States on November 8 of that year and won the favor of admirers. Windows Phone 7 borrows a lot from Zune media players and stands out from existing mobile systems. Overall, Microsoft's plan to restart its mobile operating system has been both successful and failed with its flat typesetting UI and unique hardware.

Windows Phone 7 is considered to be one of Microsoft's iconic moments in mobile. Until then, Microsoft had been using Windows Mobile 6.5. there were rumors that it would be replaced by a "photonic operating system," or Windows Mobile 7.

However, instead of continuing to fix the Windows Mobile design, Microsoft chose the very bold path of Windows Phone 7 Series (Microsoft later abandoned the name "Series").

Windows Phone 7 is a whole new way of thinking about the operating system. UI borrows a lot from the Zune series of music players, while the Zune series borrows from Windows Media Center and finds inspiration from Swiss Movement in the 1960s. Soaked in fonts such as Helvetica and later Segoe WP, Microsoft's "modern and concise" design language hides philosophy and even has a smart name Metro UI-- because its layout is like a road sign-clear, iconic, text-driven.

CTOnews.com was informed that Metro UI later evolved into a generic "Windows 8 UI" as a result of a trademark claim made by the German multinational Metro AG. But that didn't stop many apps, such as MetroTube, from embracing the idea, which Windows Phone fans embraced as a symbol of honor.

Of course, what made Windows Phone 7 so interesting at the time was that it was unique compared to iOS and Android. Microsoft's design relies on a pure white or black "theme" with no wallpaper and bold dynamic tiles to show photos, app updates and anything the developer imagines.

Dynamic tiles developed to Windows 8, but unfortunately it was not accepted by the general public because the changes in Metro were too radical compared to classic desktops. Xbox has also adopted a tile-like design for many years, as Microsoft tries to keep its design philosophy consistent across brands.

Despite Microsoft's very forward-looking and radical reconceptualization of the modern user interface, many people find the Windows Phone 7 operating system "rigid" and confusing compared to the more familiar app icons on iOS and Android still desktops.

Basically, users either "understand" Metro UI or don't understand it at all.

But in the end, we have to face the reality. Microsoft Metro UI flat design language, abandoning pseudo-materialism, is actually a kind of art. Its appearance resonates with Windows Phone 7 release devices such as Samsung Focus, HTC HD7, Dell Venue Pro, LG Quantum, HTC Surround and LG Optimus 7.

Is Microsoft at the forefront of the times, or is it just too late?

The answer is both. Windows Phone 7 entered the market too late and had to catch up from the start, and development was still too slow. But the geniuses behind Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 should be praised for making bold design choices.
