Since the commercialization of 5G for three years, the application of 5G has been continuously expanded, gradually penetrating from various application scenarios facing 2C to industrial Internet, vehicle networking, video surveillance, electric power, port, mining and other industrial fields. At the same time, various requirements of 5G application put forward different requirements for price, power consumption and performance of 5G terminal module, and put forward new challenges to 5G capability formulated by R15 and R16 specifications.

The Action Plan for 5G Application "Sailing"(2021-2023) issued by ten departments such as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also clearly points out that the R & D and industrialization of lightweight 5G chip modules shall be accelerated, the cost performance of terminal modules shall be further improved, the personalized needs of industrial applications shall be met, and the basic support capability of the industry shall be improved.

Ericsson took the lead in completing the establishment and formulation of Redcap-related standards in 3GPP, supplemented the middle zone of 5G capability, effectively expanded 5G capability and application scenarios, and formed a complete technical system with high, medium and low classification capabilities for 5G for various 2C and 2B industry application requirements.

CTOnews.com learned that this test follows the specification requirements of NR RedCap Key Technology Test Method for 5G Enhanced Technology R & D Test prepared by IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group. Ericsson commercial equipment and ASR 5G chip platform are adopted to verify the test contents including RedCap UE basic capability, camping and access control, RedCap UE identification and random access, basic service, mobility and legacy UE coexistence, peak throughput, user plane delay, etc. The test results fully comply with the 3GPP standard protocol flow, and the performance meets the expected requirements.

Ericsson will continue to actively promote the relevant standard work of RedCap in R18; at the same time, under the guidance of IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, Ericsson will continue to participate in the follow-up test of RedCap organized by the Promotion Group to jointly promote the industrialization of RedCap technology.
