There is no Batman's Batman Game.
Before I played Gotham Knight, I had something to look forward to. You know, whether it's a movie or a game, Batman is always so special that you can't think of him as a superhero symbol. We've been through the Arkham trilogy and know what a good superhero game-or at least a good Batman game-should look like.
It's a pity that this time is different.
Let's get this straight. First of all, Gotham Knight is a Batman game without Batman-of course, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment doesn't play tricks like "Dragon Bourne 2" to give us the wrong impression of who the protagonist is. We can see Batman dead in several promotions before the game is released, and the protagonist of the game is his former partner.
Although the story still takes place in Gotham, and the game often reminds you of Batman's days, Gotham Knight may not be a priority for players who say "I like Batman movies, so give it a try."
Here, you can choose to control four characters, "Night Wing" Dick Grayson, "Red Hood" Jason Todd, "Robin" Tim Drake, and "bat Girl" Barbara Gordon. In other words, first-generation Robin, second-generation Robin, third-generation Robin and bat girl. If you still don't understand here. Robin, Batman's assistant, appears more frequently in comics and animations, but not very often in movies.
The debut of the main actor group, the friends who watch Meiman may be more familiar with it. Frankly speaking, I haven't seen many Batman cartoons, and most of my knowledge comes from movies and animations. Night wing, red hood, Robin, bat girl, yes, but not that familiar. In this case, "Gotham Knight" makes me a little confused. At the beginning of the game, Batman and "Ninja Master" Lei Xiaogu die together in the bat cave, Night Wing and others found his body, Gotham lost Batman-but then? Four protagonists appear on the street, and players need to abruptly choose one of them to start their adventures in the game, and you probably don't know any of them.
It should at least be a good story about Gotham who lost Batman and how his buddies emerged from a great tragedy. The relationships between these four individuals and Batman are different, so they also have different behavior patterns. Night wing is the first generation of Robin, who has always wanted to shoulder greater responsibilities; Red Hood does not agree with some of Batman's ideas, and he is alienated from the whole team; the current Robin in the game worldview, that is, Tim Drake, wants to prove himself. Bat Girl, as Sheriff Gordon's daughter, has special feelings for her father and Gotham-which is good, but it's not reflected much in the game. You can choose any character to play the game. You can also change roles at any time in the base camp clock tower, but there is little difference in the flow of the game except for a few lines and character moves.
The other frustrating thing about choosing everyone is that although these four characters have all kinds of relationships and different emotions with Batman, this emotional connection is greatly weakened in stand-alone mode. There is only a little dialogue between the characters when they return to the clock tower during the mission. It's hard to really see anything-especially if the players are not familiar with these four. Therefore, multiplayer play may be a better choice, but at present, the game only supports two people to play together, and the four-person cooperation mode will be launched on November 29.
Let's put aside Batman and his Robins for a while. Apart from being a Batman game, Gotham Knight is first and foremost an open-world action RPG game. From the point of view of the average player, it may have more problems.
Gotham Knight offers a fully open city of Gotham, and even in the early days of the game, you can go anywhere on the map, from the clock tower to the cathedral, from Arkham asylum to Gotham City Hall. It's just that Gotham is obviously less interesting than Scullije (Wizard 3), the City of Night (Cyberpunk 2077) or the narrow Space (Elden Ring). You can't find a store or hotel here. Everything in the city looks very similar, there is smoke everywhere, and the lights come through from behind the smoke, making people dizzy. Cars are driving on the street, but to you they are just square moving bricks.
The most important thing in the empty city of Gotham is criminals, and it's the same in the game. Crime occurs as a map event, and you can often see crime scenes on the street. There are few peaceful places where people are beaten in one place, beaten again in the same place the next day, and the same on the third day. There are not many kinds of crimes, such as bomb attacks, robbing armored cars, beating people. Tossing and turning, that's all. This may remind you of the early days of the Assassin Creed, but Gotham Knight is more monotonous, and these map events are even linked to mainline tasks and character ability acquisition, forcing you to repeat them.
Considering that the vigilantes in Gotham are active at night, instead of using the traditional day-night alternation system, the game allows players to be fixed at night when they go out and day when they return to the clock tower base camp-- understandably, but it's hard to get tired over a long period of time, especially when you're constantly facing similar nights to rescue hostages trapped every day. Day is like a craving to me, just as Batman, who represents the night, needs to live as Bruce Wayne.
You can only feel the resemblance to the Arkham series when you go out to play Gotham Knight at night. In Batman: the Knight of Arkham, Batman has a variety of ways to move, such as hook rope, gliding, Batmobile and so on. Players can easily use the hook to cross a building, jump, then spread bat wings to glide, dive, hook in front again, press the attack button to launch an air attack on passing criminals. In the Knight of Gotham, you can still see the skeleton of the system, but considering that the protagonist is no longer Batman, the game has made some small changes.
For example, gliding is not a skill that everyone can do, you can only do this when operating bat girl, the night wing is through a glider, the red hood is a big jump, and Robin is a short-distance teleportation. These skills need to be unlocked by repeating boring tasks, and hook is almost your only friend for the first 5 to 10 hours of the game.
Hook is the most commonly used mobile tool to fight, and the continuous retreat part also has the shadow of the "Arkham" series, in other words, like a simple version of "Arkham". Even hit the attack keys, the character will automatically fight, and even be able to switch freely between enemies. When facing a stronger enemy, you can use the key combination to defeat the enemy with your skill.
Of course, more time you only need to press the melee attack button, because there are too few types of enemies in the game, melee soldiers, gunmen, artillery, this is the most common, with melee can be solved; there are a few strong ones. Need to press a long press to break through the defense. These are the conventional types of enemies, scattered all over the map, as well as in the main and regional missions. They're everywhere.
In the Owl Court's mission line, there is a special enemy "claw" that will infinitely dodge your melee attacks. The solution is to first press the long-range attack key to knock him down with a long-range heavy blow, then run up to control and press the attack key to execute.
It doesn't sound like a big deal, but the only problem is that Gotham Knight is not locked. When using a handle, you have to use a rocker to accurately control the orientation of the character, otherwise you won't be able to hit it. The overall operation precision of the game is very low, and the character moves and turns may not necessarily follow the player's mind, which has some impact on the battle that requires precision.
Claw is a kind of tough little soldier, whether in the task line or on the street, these simple small combat is full of games, two or three knockout, you hardly need to worry about your own blood volume. But the Boss war is another matter. Boss usually has a high blood volume-low precision and time-consuming, which means you will be beaten frequently, which may lead to problems with blood volume.
Let's take the Frozen Man as an example. After a long task line, I met him on the roof of a building. His action mode is a bit like the Boss in MMORPG, probably with three melee strikes, firing missiles, shooting with a freezer gun, and firing lasers from a machine in the center of the field.
Before melee and missile landing, there will be a red circle hint, the frozen gun has a long time to accumulate power, and the spinning laser just needs to follow. The whole Boss battle is "hiding in a red circle and rubbing output". As long as you can react well, there is no technical content, but the process is very long. Frozen people have a total of three stages, but there is no substantial change in each stage, the whole battle is like learning Malio vs. Quba, but did not learn the essence of combat design.
Just avoid the red box. In addition, Gotham Knight is the first video game to have an owl court. this mysterious villain is very popular among comic book readers, hiding in the deeper shadow of Gotham City. Even whispering about owl court can be dangerous. But the owl court mission line in "Gotham Knight" is like going to "Pokemon" to beat the Rockets, breaking into the stronghold of evil organizations alone, making a scene and then slapping their buttocks away, with no consequences, no price, no sense of pressure. It's hard for me to accept.
Gotham needs Batman, no matter where the process of playing "Gotham Knight" and writing down these feelings is a bit painful, after spending a lot of time criticizing it, I seem to have become a person who constantly complains about games and vents discontent. Is there anything good about the Knight of Gotham? Maybe, if you are a loyal Batman comic book reader with a strong interest in night wings, red hood, Robin and bat girl, as well as villains. Then "Gotham Knight" may be of some value to you.
Some of the details of the game may make Batman fans a little happy, such as a secret room opened by playing the piano, a document documenting Batman's past, and a chat between three generations of Robin. However, these unexpected flashes can not save the overall mediocrity.
Miss BatLantern as a Batman game without Batman, maybe it was designed for loyal audiences from the beginning, or maybe it's just Warner Bros. Overestimated the charm of the bat family. At least from the perspective of a moviegoer, I prefer to be able to manipulate Batman rather than a red hood. I've been using Batgirl for more than half of the Gotham Knight process, and she at least looks like a bat.
Compared with Arkham, perhaps Gotham Knight inherits the most Bug and flashbacks from PC. During the visit, I encountered dropped frames, flashbacks and several Bug on two computers, of which 3060 dropped frames more obviously than 1060. Most of the pictures in this paper are captured on 1060 computers. In addition, the host version of Gotham Knight only supports 30 frames.
One of the Bug encounters, after a certain mission, the red hooded hoodie strap stood up.
The Knight of Gotham now looks like a big collection of the shortcomings of Arkham and the Assassin's Creed: a large and empty city, repeated battles and missions, an uncharismatic protagonist. It's hard to imagine that this is the work released after Batman: the Knight of Arkham, it's a big retrogression in all directions, and no one knows why.
I think that's why Gotham needs Bruce Wayne.
