CTOnews.com, October 21 (Xinhua) BMW Chairman Oliver Zipse admitted that electric cars are inevitable, but he also set his sights on the era of electric vehicles. In a recent comment, Zipse said he thought hydrogen-powered cars would be "the most avant-garde means of transportation" after the era of electric vehicles.

"after electric vehicles that have been going on for about a decade and are expanding rapidly, the next trend will be hydrogen," Zipse said. "when it is larger, hydrogen will be the most fashionable driver." Zipse stressed that hydrogen has a significant advantage over electricity, which requires a large charging network.

Although today's hydrogen cars are niche products and the construction of hydrogen infrastructure is very difficult, BMW has been experimenting with the technology. In 2005, BMW produced 100 "hydrogen 7" cars, and in 2021, the company launched the iX5 hydrogen fuel cell concept car for the first time at the German international auto show.

As recently as August, BMW also began building fuel cell systems for iX5 SUV's mass-production model, which will go on sale in the United States, according to Zipse. According to previous reports from Bloomberg News, BMW will deliver fewer than 100 iX5 hydrogen-powered vehicles to some partners in Europe, the United States and Asia from the end of this year.
