CTOnews.com, Oct. 21, Reddit users are using SteamOS VirtualBox virtual machine software to try to make macOS Catalina work at least in part on Valve's handheld gaming platform.

The Reddit user Lampa183 shows how macOS Catalina is running on Valve Steam Deck. Everyone is curious about how it performs on a small 7-inch screen.

"performance is normal. But some animations are [lagging] and take 2-4 minutes to open," Lampa183 said in a reply.

Steam Deck is a portable game console based on AMD Zen 2 APU, with four cores and eight threads, RDNA 2 GPU. CPU basic clock rate is 2.4GHz, overclocking can reach 3.5GHz, can play desktop PC games at relatively low resolution, and the frame rate is acceptable.

CTOnews.com has learned that Steam Deck also supports running the Arch Linux desktop environment.

The lagging animation performance may be due to the fact that the user has not activated any GPU acceleration features. It is not clear whether this is feasible.
