Jay Pinho, a professional social networking site who tracks data on LinkedIn, was the first to notice a sharp decline in the number of employees at Apple and Amazon. According to the findings he shared, LinkedIn had 576562 accounts that listed Apple as an employer on October 10, but by the next day, that number had fallen sharply to less than 285000. Pinho says a similar phenomenon has happened to Amazon, where the number of employees on LinkedIn has fallen by 33%.

LinkedIn confirmed that the sharp decline in the number of employees at Apple and Amazon was due to the company's deletion of fake accounts through automated tools and manual auditors. " We will take regular action to remove fake accounts on our platform and constantly improve our system to stop fake accounts before they go online. We did stop most of the fraudulent activities we found in the community: about 96% of false accounts and about 99.1% of spam and scams. " LinkedIn spokesman Greg Snape (Greg Snapper) said in a statement.

The number of Apple employees on LinkedIn has been reduced by nearly 300,000 overnight. LinkedIn's efforts to crack down on false accounts are rarely noticed. At present, the main concern is the potential fake accounts of Twitter, which is locked in a months-long legal battle with Elon Musk, which accused Musk of understating the number of fake accounts on the platform.

However, LinkedIn's fake account problem was put in the spotlight in August. At that time, Zhao Changpeng, CEO of the encrypted currency exchange, said on Twitter: "there are 7000 'currency security employees' information on LinkedIn, of which only about 50 are real." He called some of the accounts "liars" and warned his fans to "be careful".

It now appears that LinkedIn took action shortly after the tweet was posted. Just as Apple and Amazon have seen a sharp drop in the number of employees on LinkedIn overnight, Pinghuo found that the number of employees in Yuan an fell by 23% in early September.
