According to CTOnews.com news on October 20, Tesla is vigorously promoting his FSD (Full Self-Driving) technology. The company hopes to release the technology to more users within a month, and hopes regulators will have a better understanding of the technology after it is widely released.

"as a result, we expect to launch FSD beta widely in North America in the fourth quarter of this year, and anyone who has ordered FSD will be able to experience the FSD Beta project this year," Musk said on an earnings call in the third quarter of 2022. "anyone who buys a car and an optional FSD will get this feature immediately," which means it will also be available to users who buy a new car later.

Tesla hopes to provide regulators with an updated report in 2023 to show regulators that their fully self-driving vehicles are much safer than manual driving.

According to Musk, the car will be "significantly safer" when the FSD mode is turned on than when it is not activated. He added that regulatory approval of FSD is a completely different matter.

Musk said it would be difficult for Tesla's advanced driving assistance software to be approved by regulators in 2022. The comments suggest that the company has not yet been able to convince the authorities that its car can be driven unmanned.

CTOnews.com learned that Tesla is selling an auxiliary driving kit called "fully self-driving", which is priced at $15000 and supports a range of functions such as automatic lane change and automatic parking. The kit complements its Autopilot function and enables cars to drive, accelerate and brake in the driveway without driver intervention.

To put it simply, Tesla's current Autopilot belongs to limited auxiliary driving and still needs to be driven under the supervision of the driver, but fully self-driving cars need to be approved by regulators.

Musk assured users that FSD could drive to work, a friend's house or a grocery store "without touching the steering wheel."

CTOnews.com cautioned that he did not mention whether FSD would be L4 or L5 autopilot after the "widespread release", but stressed that self-driving was not the same as self-driving. "We're not saying it's ready for self-driving. It's just that you barely have to touch the control system."

In September, Martin Martin Viecha, Tesla's senior director of investor relations, pointed out that the company planned to issue a "regulatory review" FSD. Visa's comments echoed those made by Elon Musk on the earnings call for the third quarter of 2022.

Viecha explained that the "approved FSD" is basically "regulated autopilot" and drivers are still actively involved in the motorized driving of the car. According to Musk's explanation, the regulated FSD requires drivers to stay focused on the road, but only when absolutely necessary.

Tesla is expected to release FSD beta version 10.69.3 this week. The latest version of FSD Beta is v.10.69.2.3.
