CTOnews.com, October 20, today, Air China received a brand new A350 wide-body aircraft at the Tianjin Airbus delivery Center and carried out its first flight after receiving it using domestic sustainable aviation fuel.

This is another active exploration in the field of sustainable aviation fuels after Air China flew China's first biofuel verification flight in 2011. Air China has become the first domestic aviation department to use domestic sustainable aviation fuel to deliver wide-body airliners, and it is also the first aviation department to carry out sustainable aviation fuel applications on both Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

CCTV reported that Airbus's delivery center in Tianjin delivered an A320neo to China Eastern Airlines on October 12, which will use 5 per cent of sustainable aviation fuel ("SAF") for flight. This will be the first SAF delivery flight of a single-aisle aircraft assembled by Airbus in China, opening the green journey of an Airbus single-aisle aircraft in China.

CTOnews.com learned that the Airbus Tianjin wide-body aircraft completion and delivery Center was officially opened in September 2017, completed and delivered the A330 aircraft, expanded to the framework agreement for the A350 model in July 2019, and completed and delivered the center's A350 project to production and delivery of the first aircraft in July 2021.

It is understood that the Airbus A350 has the latest aerodynamic design, the fuselage and wings are made of carbon fiber composites, powered by the latest efficient engine produced by Rolls-Royce. These advanced technologies enable the A350 to have excellent operational efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 25%.

The delivery flight of the A350 uses domestic sustainable aviation fuel, which is provided by Sinopec Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Co., Ltd., uses Sinopec's own intellectual property rights of bio-aviation coal production technology (SRJET), and uses catering waste oil as raw material. Compared with traditional aviation kerosene, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by up to 85% in the whole life cycle.

According to reports, this fuel was approved by the Civil Aviation Administration in September this year, and won Asia's first global RSB sustainable aviation fuel certification issued by the international certification body SCS.
