Today, Godson announced that the Godson team has completed the merger of the LoongArch base code with the upstream TianoCore EDK2 of UEFI, and LoongArch has entered the main branch of TianoCore EDK2, becoming the fourth officially supported chip instruction system architecture after X86, ARM and Risc-V.

▲ LoongArch basic code is incorporated into the mainline UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) by TianoCore EDK2, which refers to a unified extensible firmware interface that defines the software interface between the PC operating system and system firmware, responsible for power-on self-test (POST), contacting the operating system and providing an interface to connect the operating system and hardware, which you should have seen when installing the system.

Loongxin Zhongke said that after the merger, developers can directly obtain the basic supporting code of LoongArch in the open source community, thus compiling the peripheral drivers of LoongArch directly (no longer need to obtain the development environment from Godson).

On the other hand, the merging of the code will help the LoongArch virtual machine work on open source. When the virtual machine code is open source, developers or users can get the LoongArch virtual machine code directly from the EDK2 community, and after successful compilation, they can run the LoongArch virtual machine firmware directly on the industry's popular general-purpose processors (including LoongArch, X86, X64, AARCH64, etc.).

CTOnews.com learned that at present, the Godson LoongArch architecture has been supported by Linux, GO language and GCC compilers. In addition, the SMBIOS, UEFI 2.10 and ACPI 6.5 specifications have supported the Godson LoongArch architecture. Longxin Zhongke also plans to binary part of the physical machine code of LoongArch to better serve the companies and individuals of LoongArch ecological development and construction.
