Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Mr_C_rM, Alucard, Sentinel, EdgeOS, Terrence, soft media Xinyou 2010825, anti-rain hedgehog for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com October 20, Microsoft today released a preview of Windows 11 Build 25227 for Dev channels. This includes update management improvements for IT administrators, as well as a series of general changes and improvements.

Microsoft is launching the second season of "Inside Windows 11" for Windows 11 2022 updates, after the first season was about accessibility content. CTOnews.com has learned that an update to the Microsoft Store is being released to all Windows Insiders to introduce pop-up trailers for games and movies.

New content

Improvements in update management to ensure consistency and predictability of Windows Update restart times are a key part of a successful update strategy. To improve the predictability of the restart, Microsoft has made the following changes to Update Stack Orchestrator.

Now, the deadline for quality and functional updates is calculated based on the time when the customer's update scan first found the update. Previously, for quality updates, the deadline was based on the release date of the update, and for feature updates, the deadline was based on the date to be restarted.

The deadline group policy settings that specify automatic updates and restarts are split into two separate settings to be consistent with existing configuration service provider (CSP) policies. The options in the Group Policy settings are the same for both functional and quality updates. Each new setting also has the option of "do not restart automatically until the end of the grace period". The new Group Policy settings are:

Specify deadlines for automatic updates and restarts for quality updates

Specify the deadline for automatic updates and the restart time for feature updates

In order to reduce the impact of changes in the due date calculation, the default values for feature updates are changed to the following:

Update/ConfigureDeadlineForFeatureUpdates=2 (previously 7).

Update/ConfigureDeadlineGracePeriodForFeatureUpdate = 7 (previously 2)
