October 20, according to foreign media reports, the White House announced on Wednesday local time that the U.S. Department of Energy will allocate $2.8 billion under the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed last year to support battery manufacturing and mineral mining for electric vehicles in the United States.

As carmakers race to expand US electric vehicle and battery production, the White House has also launched an all-government initiative called the US Battery Materials Initiative (American Battery Material Initiative) to strengthen key mineral supply chains and support electric vehicle production.

This is the latest move by the US president to support a shift from gasoline-powered cars to zero-emission electric vehicles, with the goal of accounting for half of all new cars sold in the United States by 2030.

According to foreign media reports, 20 manufacturing and processing companies in 12 states will receive funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, which is expected to create 8000 jobs.

According to foreign media, the money will support battery production in two areas: mining and processing "key minerals" such as lithium and graphite under the new US Battery Materials Initiative; and battery manufacturing and assembly.

The funded project is expected to "develop sufficient lithium to supply more than 2 million electric vehicles a year and establish large-scale domestic graphite and nickel production".

The money will also be used to develop an electrode adhesive facility that will meet 45% of the expected demand for battery adhesives for electric vehicles in the United States by 2030.
