Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, October 19, according to a CCTV report, the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is now using FAST to make imaging observations in the dense galaxy group, the Stephen Quadruple Galaxy, and the surrounding sky, and found a huge atomic gas system with a scale of about 2 million light-years, that is, a large number of dispersed hydrogen atomic gas.
It is said to be the largest atomic gas system ever detected in the universe. CTOnews.com learned that the results were published in the international academic journal Nature at 23:00 Beijing time on October 19, 2022.

According to reports, this discovery indicates that there may be more such large-scale low-density atomic gas structures in the universe, and this discovery also challenges the study of the evolution of galaxies and their gases in the universe. it also helps us to achieve a deeper understanding of gas dynamics in the region outside the galaxy group.

CTOnews.com learned that the 500m aperture spherical radio telescope (Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope, referred to as FAST), known as the "Chinese Heavenly Eye", was proposed by Chinese astronomer Nan Rendong in 1994. it took 22 years to build and was put into use at sunset on September 25, 2016. It is led by the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with China's independent intellectual property rights, the world's largest single-aperture, the most sensitive radio telescope. The overall performance is ten times that of the famous radio telescope Arecibo.
On January 11, 2020, the "Chinese Sky Eye" 500m aperture spherical radio telescope was officially opened for operation through national acceptance.
In early 2022, officials announced that FAST had discovered about 500 pulsars, making it the most efficient device in the world to find pulsars since its operation.
As of July this year, the 500-meter aperture spherical radio telescope, known as the "Chinese heavenly eye", has discovered more than 660 new pulsars. FAST staff said: "at present, 'Chinese Heavenly Eye' has entered a period of explosive results."
