Different from the game performance, the video decoding ability does not depend on the overall performance of GPU, but also tests the ability of separate video decoding hardware. In the test, the Chrome browser played 4K and 8K resolution AV1 format YouTube video.

At 4K resolution:

The average frame of the Intel Reid A770 is full of 60FPS, falling to 44.8FPS in 1% and 44.1FPS in 0.2%.

Both Nvidia RTX 3090 and RTX 4090 can average 59.9 frames.

AMD RX 6800 XT has an average of only 55.8FPS, with a low probability of falling to 12.2FPS.

To the 8K test:

The advantage of Intel Ruixuan A770 is more obvious, the average frame is 59.9FPS, the performance is almost unaffected.

Nvidia's two high-end graphics cards can only be maintained around 57FPS, and there will be a small probability of falling frames to 17FPS.

AMD RX 6800 XT is the worst performer, with an average frame of only 22FPS, which can't even meet the basic 24FPS requirements of the movie. There will be perceptual stutters when watching.

CTOnews.com learned that Intel, as a founding member of the Open Media Alliance, did a lot of work in promoting AV1 codecs, taking the lead in providing hardware AV1 decoding through its Xe-LP GPU in 2020. Ruixuan Duxian supports complete AV1 hardware acceleration for the first time, which is 50 times faster than software acceleration. Adobe Premiere Pro, Leonardo da Vinci and other software have supported Intel and other AV1 hardware acceleration, so the advantages in 8K testing are also expected.

However, AMD has never been satisfactory in coding and decoding, so we can look forward to whether the RX 7000 series can be improved. The AMD RX 7000 series graphics cards will be released in early November and are expected to be available in December.
