Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) recently, wind turbine giant Siemens Gamesa has set a new power generation record, with its SG14-222DD offshore wind turbine prototype setting a world record of 359MW per machine in 24 hours, according to Superpower Lab.

Source: Siemens Gamesa1 megawatt-hour is equivalent to 1000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, or 359000 kilowatt-hours, enough for a medium-sized electric vehicle like Tesla Model 3 to drive about 1.12 million miles (1.8 million km).

The SG14-222DD is actually designed to operate at sea (offshore wind), but this test run is carried out on land. Because the wind conditions there are worse than those at sea, Siemens Gamesa expects higher power production when the wind turbine is used at sea.

Gamesa's SG 14-222 DD is a very large offshore wind turbine, launched in May 2020, using permanent magnet direct drive technology, and its prototype was first put into operation at the National Wind Energy Test Center in Denmark in December 2021. According to Siemens Gamesa, the SG14-222 DD is currently the largest wind turbine in the world. The recyclable rotor blade is 108 meters long and the rotor diameter is 222 meters. The cabin is installed on a 160-meter tower. The SG 14-222DD has a fan capacity of up to 14.7MW and can reach 15MW when using the Power Boost function, providing energy to approximately 18000 households per year.

The SG14-222DD is scheduled to start production in 2024, and Siemens is already working on a follow-up product, the SG14-236DD, which will have a rotor diameter of 236m and will be even 5 per cent higher than the power of the SG14-222DD.

CTOnews.com learned that Siemens Gamesa was born in 2017, when German industrial giant Siemens and Spanish manufacturer Gamesa completed the merger of the wind power business. Headquartered in Zamudio, Spain, in which Siemens Energy holds a 67% stake, Siemens Gamesa is the only company in the world that operates globally in the entire wind energy sector (land, sea and services).
