On October 19, Renesas recently announced that it had completed its acquisition of wafer-free semiconductor company Steradian Semiconductors Private Limited ("Steradian"), which provides 4D imaging radar solutions, as of October 17, 2022.

Headquartered in Bangalore, India, Steradian is a start-up company founded in 2016 that provides radar solutions for high-precision object recognition and power efficiency in small sizes. Radar is a very important technology for ADAS, which uses a variety of complex sensor combinations in vehicles to detect objects. Building on the high growth opportunities offered by the automotive radar market, Renesas plans to expand its automotive portfolio and influence in the radar market with the help of Steradian's radar technology.

The resulting automotive radar solution will combine new automotive radar products, Renesas ADAS SoC (system on Chip) for radar signal processing, power management IC (PMIC) and timing products, as well as software for object recognition. These solutions will simplify the design of automotive radar systems and help accelerate product development.

After the completion of the acquisition, Steradian has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Renesas Electronics. The combination of Steradian's outstanding radar technology and engineering talent will enhance Renesas's sensing solutions in a wide range of applications, including industrial systems. Renesas will bring together an excellent portfolio and software to meet the growing demand for sensor technology solutions and remain committed to making engineers' design work easier.
