October 19 news, Toshiba Electronic components and Storage Devices Co., Ltd. ("Toshiba") announced the launch of 20TB high-capacity traditional magnetic recording (CMR) mechanical hard disk-MG10. The 20TB MG10 series features a 10-disk helium-filled seal design that uses Toshiba's magnetic energy control-microwave-assisted magnetic recording (FC-MAMR) technology to enhance storage capacity.

Compared with Toshiba's previous 18TB models, the 20TB MG10 series of traditional magnetic recording (CMR) hard drives have an 11.1% increase in capacity, have good compatibility with many applications and operating systems, and can adapt to mixed workloads of random read-write and sequential read-write, suitable for cloud-scale and traditional data center applications. This series of hard drives are rated at 7200rpm speeds and annual 550TB workload levels, with optional SATA and SAS interfaces, energy-efficient helium seals and industry-standard 3.5in hard drive form factors.

20TB's MG10 series further confirms Toshiba's commitment to drive mechanical hard drive design to meet the growing demand for storage devices in cloud-scale servers as well as object and file storage infrastructure. With improved energy efficiency and increased capacity, 20TB's MG10 series reduces capital expenditure and optimizes TCO (total cost of ownership) by helping to increase the storage density of cloud-scale infrastructure. As the demand for data storage continues to grow rapidly, the 20TB MG10 series uses magnetic energy control-microwave-assisted magnetic recording technology (FC-MAMR) to assist cloud-scale service providers and storage solution designers to achieve higher storage density for cloud, hybrid cloud, and local rack-scale storage.
