CTOnews.com, Oct. 19 (Reuters)-ASML Holding NV, a key equipment supplier to computer chip makers, reported better-than-expected third-quarter sales and profits on Wednesday, and new net bookings hit a record.

ASML reported third-quarter net sales of 5.8 billion euros (about 41.122 billion yuan), gross profit margin of 51.8 percent and net income of 1.7 billion euros (about 12.053 billion yuan); quarterly net bookings reached a record 8.9 billion euros (about 63.101 billion yuan) in the third quarter; sales are expected to be about 12 billion euros (about 1488.9 billion yuan) in 2022.

Analysts surveyed by Refinitiv expect ASML's third-quarter net profit of 1.42 billion euros (about 10.068 billion yuan) and sales of 5.41 billion euros (38.357 billion yuan).

In the second quarter of 2022, ASML had revenue of 1.7 billion euros (about 12.053 billion yuan) and sales of 5.78 billion euros (about 40.98 billion yuan).

CTOnews.com learned that in terms of performance outlook, ASML expects net sales of between 6.1 billion euros (about 43.249 billion yuan) to 6.6 billion euros (about 46.794 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter of 2022 and 4.98 billion euros (about 35.308 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter of 2021, with a gross profit margin of about 49 percent.

The value of fast shipments in 2022 * delayed revenue recognition to 2023 and is expected to be 2.2 billion euros (about 15.598 billion yuan). (*) the fast delivery process skips some testing in the factory. The final test and acceptance will be carried out at the customer site. Peter Wennink, president and CEO of ASML, said: "net sales in the third quarter were 5.8 billion euros and gross profit margin was 51.8%, higher than expected. There is uncertainty in the market due to global macroeconomic factors, including inflation, consumer confidence and the risk of recession. Although there are differences in the demand dynamics of each market segment, our overall customer demand is still strong. This pushed new orders to an all-time high of about 8.9 billion euros in the third quarter, of which 3.8 billion euros came from EUV system orders, including High-NA system orders. "

ASML is continuing to evaluate and follow the newly issued export control regulations of the United States. According to a preliminary assessment, the new restrictions do not revise the rules governing ASML's shipments of lithography equipment from the Netherlands and are expected to have a limited direct impact on ASML's overall shipping plan in 2023.

In addition, Peter Wennink said: "ASML expects net sales of 6.1 billion to 6.6 billion euros in the fourth quarter of 2022, with a gross profit margin of about 49 per cent. Research and development costs are expected to be about 880 million euros, sales and management expenses are about 265 million euros. Revenue is expected to be about 21.1 billion euros in 2022 and gross profit margin for the whole of 2022 is about 50%."

Product and business highlights are in the DUV business, where ASML delivered the first TWINSCAN NXT:2100i system. This latest infiltrating lithography machine improves the engraving accuracy by more than 20% (on-product overlay). (*) for a typical logic chip

Some customers have applied 12 wavelength optimization (Alignment Optimization 12 Color) as a registration process on advanced nodes. Compared with using only 4-wavelength wafer alignment, more robust alignment ability can be ensured by transmitting and measuring 12-wavelength (or color) measurement signals, combined with lithography exposure model and alignment optimization software. the fluctuation of wafer and wafer engraving accuracy can be reduced by more than 20%.

In the EUV High-NA business, ASML received additional orders from TWINSCAN EXE:5200; currently all EUV customers have submitted High-NA orders.

Based on the share buyback program implemented between 2021 and 2023, ASML bought back approximately 1 billion euros of shares in the third quarter of 2022. The current share buyback plan has been completed.
