Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Through their own ecological hardware products, terminal manufacturers are trying to consolidate user stickiness and expand more users at the consumer end; in the industry, they want to try to gain the dominance of digital life in the future through a certain ecological share.
From the current mainstream smart wearable products in the market, although there are great differences in performance, function, system and even price, they are inseparable from the core function of health monitoring.
For example, Huawei is already laying out the image sources of wearable products with different positions: the vast majority of office workers may pay more attention to visible monitoring items such as daily steps, blood oxygen status, standing times, and so on, but sleep monitoring is different from daytime activity and is not easy to be noticed by users. It is in a "hidden" environment that is not easy to perceive. In addition, it's hard to see sleep as a major selling point in smart wearers' publicity, and even Apple has gradually perfected this monitoring feature only in iOS 16 and watchOS 9.
Apple basically mentions the part of sleep: Apple, but in my opinion, sleep problems are a big deal.
According to the 2022 Sleep Panorama White Paper released by the China Sleep Research Association, only 25.4% of the population has met the sleep standard, 51.4% of the population has mild sleep problems, 23.2% of the sleep quality is substandard, and there are more sleep problems.
It may be difficult to draw conclusions directly from this data, but if you ask your friends and relatives, you will probably ask about your sleep more or less. For example, you feel tired or inefficient in doing everything during the day, making it difficult to concentrate; for example, you are emotionally unstable, irritable and irritable. If this situation continues, there will be a series of adverse physical changes, such as dark circles under the eyes, bags under the eyes, sallow complexion and so on.
In fact, daily sleep has already become an "invisible" problem of social health. Of course, in addition to the length of sleep, it also includes a series of data such as the time of falling asleep, so it is very important to attach importance to and scientifically manage your own sleep.
According to the report, about 24.5% choose sleep aids to improve sleep quality, and about 27.6% of respondents will use psychological tests to improve their sleep health. and about 37.9% will choose affordable sleep applications and smart wear products to help improve sleep quality.
This aroused my curiosity. Can the dazzling variety of smart wearable products and downloads of more than 10 million third-party App sleep software really cure "sleep anxiety"?
This time, based on my own experience, I would like to talk about my experience of wearing Apple and Huawei smartwatches, as well as the experience of using App sleep monitoring software alone, and discuss in depth the impact of these products on sleep.
The experience has its own characteristics, but the data can only refer to what sleep monitoring is for, and what are the differences between sleep monitoring and daytime health monitoring?
In fact, both sleep monitoring and daytime health monitoring can fall into the category of health monitoring. Wearing a smartwatch will not directly improve your sleep and make you sleep better. If you want to sleep well, it is better to go to bed early. If you want to be in good health, it is better to exercise more. This is an immutable skill.
So what's the point of sleep monitoring?
It is believed that the current state of the vast majority of people is: although they go to bed early on weekdays and get up at a normal time, they feel sleepy and tired. To the rest day, the time to sleep is too late, as a result, sleeping in is not relieved, but more tired.
In this case, with the help of some sensors and algorithms in wearable devices, we can know the specific conditions during sleep through monitoring data, such as heart rate, rapid eye movement, blood oxygen and so on, and detect abnormal data.
Therefore, the data monitored by smart wearers is actually an important "process" to find solutions to sleep problems, whether through smart wearers or just using mobile phones to obtain sleep data. this is the "means" to solve sleep problems.
However, these methods often bring different experiences to the sleep monitoring process because of different systems, different operations and different algorithms.
Apple's sleep setting is a little more complicated: Apple Apple Watch and Huawei Watch are completely different in setting logic, for example, when I start setting my alarm clock when I'm ready to go to bed.
When the Apple Watch is upgraded to watchOS 9, the sleep monitoring function will be significantly more comprehensive. Users need to set the "sleep timing". After setting the sleep aid and sleep target time, the user will manually turn on the sleep monitoring function. After arriving at the set time, the system will activate the sleep function through "focus mode". At this time, the phone will automatically switch to a "Zen" mode, except for the contacts and software in the whitelist. Other settings are muted to prepare for a better sleep.
There is indeed a sense of ritual, which shows that Apple does want to minimize the impact of the phone on sleep and achieve the best sleep effect through such a series of settings, but the whole setup process is too complicated for most users.
Huawei's setting before going to bed is much easier, and it's hard to find an option like sleep target time, except that it only provides "schedule" in the second-level menu. The overall setup interface is fairly simple, but there are a lot of extra-paid ads at the bottom of the sleep data, such as sleep-aiding music, sleep-improving courses, and even good sleep aids. On the contrary, this will convey to users the illusion that they can sleep better with these music and products, and the experience is very bad.
Huawei's sleep monitoring information is still very comprehensive, but other integrated content is a matter of opinion. Photo taken by Playgame lzh: when everything is set to go to bed, Apple Apple Watch will enter sleep focus mode. If users set "sleep" time, they will also directly enter this "black screen" state. Often some users who are not familiar with the function miss the prompt of important information because the "sleep aid" time is set too early. In this respect, Apple's learning cost is slightly higher, and if you want to exit, you have to press it for a long time. Most users will choose to turn off the "sleep aid" mode directly.
Whether Apple's sleep monitoring function is set to focus on "binding" is still a source of difficulty: although Huawei lzh can automatically recognize sleep status when wearing Huawei Watch, it also brings some problems. For example, if you do not make any settings, the user may activate the dial because you inadvertently raise your wrist at night, and you need to set an additional do not disturb to prohibit raising the wrist and shining the screen. Although the off screen display displays the content at the lowest brightness, it will still be dazzling at night. In the sleep environment, it is not as black as Apple.
The biggest difference between the two sleep monitoring is in the data part. Apple clearly lists all the data that users need to know, such as respiratory rate, heart rate, total sleep time, core sleep, deep sleep and so on. The data is indeed detailed, and the table is really good-looking. However, the comprehensive judgment on the meaning and health range of these data is not as intuitive as the reference given by Huawei.
Although the third-party sleep monitoring software is more professional, it still uses a third-party algorithm, which is quite different from Apple's official algorithm. But when users want to interpret Apple's sleep data with the help of third-party software, they find that whether it is naps or AutoSleep, they all have their own set of algorithms, and the results obtained through their own algorithms are very different.
Because most third-party sleep apps use cell phone microphones and accelerometer sensors to capture your sleep sounds and movements to calculate your sleep status, users are required to open the software and put their phone by the bedside before going to bed.
Some third-party sleep monitoring software needs to put the phone on the bedside image source: play lzh so it can get deep sleep and latent sleep time data without wearing a smart device, but it can only serve as a rough reference in terms of accuracy.
Not only is the data inaccurate, but sometimes it will also affect sleep. Although the data obtained through sleep monitoring allow us to clearly see our own sleep state, and then adjust our daily routine, if the adjustment is improper or unexpected conditions occur in the monitoring process, it is likely to be counterproductive and affect sleep.
For example, the problems I mentioned earlier, such as getting up to go to the bathroom at night and suddenly lighting up the Huawei Watch screen, will affect my nerves during half-dream and half-wake, and reduce the quality of my sleep.
While the third-party sleep monitoring software is set to suddenly play music automatically during sleep, then this kind of "midnight singing" can not only affect sleep, if you happen to encounter neurasthenia or heart problems, this sudden noise is tantamount to being fatal.
If the third-party sleep monitoring software, suddenly sing at night, light affect sleep, serious is a threat to the source of life: network in addition, although smart wearable devices can bring more accurate data detection, but these are based on the call of more sensors, it is bound to increase power consumption, the original Apple Watch battery life is not long, not only to detect the state of movement during the day, but also to detect sleep at night So when do I recharge it?
Judging from the actual monitoring data, because of the different algorithms, I came up with two completely different sets of sleep data after testing with two devices, and at the same time, there is a lack of official interpretation. it is difficult for users to know their real sleep through the data.
Whether it's Apple or third-party monitoring software, there is a big difference in deep sleep time: can Playplay lzh really solve "sleep anxiety" with the help of smart wear and App? Since I used these products, Apple has "forced" me to take an early break almost every day, while Autosleep tells me about my sleep through detailed data and beautiful charts, but these seemingly "friendly" features have made me more anxious.
When I use an Apple device, I have to lie in bed at the previously set bedtime. If there is a slight time deviation, there may be inaccurate monitoring data, so I have to calculate the "sleep-aiding" time in advance. But if you happen to have unfinished work at hand, you need to adjust the bedtime setting back and forth, which will not only be unable to concentrate on your work, but also affect your sleep and rest.
For example, the problem of inconsistent sleep time caused by different algorithms in different software, in the case of no detailed interpretation, the difference of nearly 2 hours of deep sleep time between several software makes me more worried about the accuracy of the device. Using these high-tech monitoring equipment, I also need to worry about the problem of sleeping more and less, tossing and turning in bed, which directly affects my mental state the next day, which is a vicious circle.
The result is that my sleep anxiety has not been solved effectively, but there are more new problems caused by equipment adjustment and monitoring data.
Whether it is with the help of food therapy, eating a variety of sleep supplements, or the use of modern science and technology, can not solve the problem from the "root", the real factors that lead to sleep anxiety are cumbersome and complex, and are not caused by simple stress.
In fact, when I think about it, when I realize that I am sleeping, I find these sleep monitoring products by looking for information, looking for help, and socializing, all through "socializing." In the process of using these products, you can't help but share your sleep time to the corresponding community and exchange sleep experience through circles.
According to a psychological survey, constant access to social networks does not bring pleasure and relaxation, but increases stress and anxiety, which can have a huge impact on consumers' body and mind, which is most obvious among today's young people.
There are also reports that satisfaction with the use of social media has declined year by year since 2014, while the negative impact of social media on users has increased year by year, which may be the soil that causes sleep anxiety to take root.
If you really want to improve the quality of sleep, put down your phone, go to bed early, pay attention to diet and exercise is the "economic medicine" to solve the problem of sleep anxiety.
