Beijing, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) Foxconn said on Tuesday that it hopes to one day produce cars for Tesla. At present, Foxconn is stepping up the production of electric vehicles to diversify its business.

Photo note: Foxconn Chairman Liu Yangwei said at the company's annual Technology Day on Tuesday that Foxconn hopes to expand its business to build electric cars for car brands to replicate its level of success in assembling consumer electronics. Foxconn is the world's largest contract manufacturer of electronics and the main contract manufacturer of Apple's iPhone and other products.

"according to our past records in the PC and mobile phone market. Our share of the overall market is about 40 to 45 per cent. So, ambitious to say, we hope to achieve the same achievements as in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, but we will start with small goals and occupy about 5 per cent by 2025. I hope one day we can produce cars for Tesla." He said.

Tesla had no comment. At present, all Tesla electric cars are produced by its own factories and have been rapidly expanding production capacity.
