Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com Samsung Electronics announced today that its latest LPDDR5X DRAM has been validated at the industry's fastest speed of 8.5Gbps for use on Snapdragon mobile platforms, surpassing Samsung's previous highest speed of 7.5Gbps achieved in March.
CTOnews.com understands that thanks to its low power consumption and high performance, LPDDR DRAM is rapidly becoming a ubiquitous product in modern computing systems and expanding into PCs, High Performance Computing (HPC), servers and automobiles, where it has experienced strong growth over the past few years.
LPDDR DRAM has been particularly in demand in the PC market lately, helping PC manufacturers make smaller, lighter, and more powerful laptops.
LPDDR memory is also an increasingly important component of modern cars. As autonomous driving functions generate more and more data, high-bandwidth memory such as LPDDR DRAM is needed to process large amounts of vehicle data at faster speeds.
For data centers and edge servers, the low power consumption of LPDDR DRAM can help reduce power consumption levels, thereby increasing the total cost of ownership (TCO) of data center managers while reducing heat and carbon emissions, ultimately reducing their impact on climate change.
As demand for faster, smaller, and more power-efficient memory increases in various fields, LPDDR DRAM is also expected to expand its reach in emerging markets such as artificial intelligence (AI) and metacossus.
Daniel Lee, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics 'memory product planning team, said: "The joint validation of the 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM enables us to accelerate the go-to-market of this high-speed memory interface by more than a year, a great achievement of our long-term partnership with Qualcomm Technologies. As the use of LPDDR memory continues to expand beyond smartphones to AI and data center applications, close collaboration between memory and SoC vendors becomes even more important. Samsung will continue to actively collaborate with innovators such as Qualcomm Technologies to improve ecosystem readiness for future LPDDR standards. "
Ziad Asghar, vice president of product management at Qualcomm Technologies, said: "At Qualcomm Technologies, we strive to implement and adopt the latest memory specifications on our Snapdragon mobile platform and are at the forefront. We are the first company in the mobile industry to enable the latest LPDDR5X at 8.5Gbps on Snapdragon mobile platforms, which will enhance the user experience by delivering new features and improved performance for mobile, gaming, camera and AI apps. "
Unsurprisingly, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to support 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM.
