Bernard Arnault, the world's second-richest man and chief executive of the LVMH Group, sold his private jet so that no one could see where he had gone, after discovering that someone had started tracking and sharing the trail of his private jet on Twitter.
Mr Arnault, 73, said he had started renting private jets. "in fact, our company does have a private jet, but we sold it," he said. now, no one can see where I'm going, because I rent a plane when I need it. "
Over the past year, there has been a proliferation of Twitter accounts that track and share public private jet data, including the travel tracks of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and singer Taylor Swift. Two popular accounts tracking Arnault's private jet were created in the past six months, with a total of nearly 100000 followers.
Arnault seems to have switched to chartering jets a few weeks ago. In September, the Twitter account @ laviondebernard, which follows Arnault's whereabouts, posted that they lacked flight data about the billionaire in recent weeks. And a few weeks ago, LVMH cancelled the registration of its aircraft in France.
@ laviondebernard tweeted on September 10: "there has been no news about Arnault or LVMH private jet since September 1, 2022. Arnault, are you hiding?"
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Arnault is the second richest man in the world, with a net worth estimated at $133 billion, surpassing Amazon founder Jeff Jeff Bezos. Arnault is the CEO, co-founder and chairman of LVMH and has built a vast luxury empire that includes well-known brands such as Tiffany&Co., Tag Heur and Dom P é rignon.
Antoine Antoine Arnault, Mr Arnault's son, defended LVMH's use of a private jet on Monday after his father was criticised by the French media for taking a private jet to increase carbon emissions. 'Private jets give executives an edge in the competition to launch new products or trade, 'Mr. Arnault said.
Arnault Jr. added: "our industry is highly competitive. We haven't found anything better than a private jet to win every day's race, which will give us a small step ahead of our competitors."
Arnault is not the only billionaire tracked for using private jets in recent months. In July, Swift's private jet was at the top of the list to increase carbon emissions, and critics lashed out at her. At the time, her spokeswoman said, "this plane is often lent to other people to use."
Other public figures have also expressed safety concerns about sharing private jet flight data on social media. Earlier this year, Musk offered to pay $5000 to the creator of the Twitter account who tracked his travel, asking him to close the account, but was refused. Musk once said, "I don't like the idea of being shot by a madman."
Meanwhile, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (Mark Zuckerberg) changed his private jet after a Twitter account began tracking him, and billionaire investor Mark Cuban (Mark Cuban) reached a deal with a tracker in exchange for giving him business advice in exchange for deleting the account.
